EMERGENCY!!

I planned on answering a piece of reader mail, but unfortunately my apartment flooded over. The horrific neighbor that lived over me moved out a few weeks ago. I was glad about that, because she had this big ol' dog that she use to keep locked up all day in the room over mine. I would hear him scratching at the door to get out. I never knew his name, but I affectionately called him Oscar. I dunno! Anyway, I guess she realized that the apartment wasn't big enough, so she moved.

This morning, while I was preparing to write a very fashion infused post, I heard all this banging and moving around, so I assumed that maintence and crew was fixing up the apartment for a new tenant. WRONG!!! All of a sudden, water starts pouring from the ceiling in the little closet that harbors the heater! Then it started pouring out the air vent in the bathroom!! Then it made its way to the dining room coming out of the light fixture, air vent, and finally the light fixture in the kitchen!!!!! Needless to say, I immediately called the office and they promptly sent one of the maintence men. I heard him go upstairs first and do something up there and then he came to check out my mess.

He came and did a very brief walk through and asked if I heard some banging upstairs. I told him I did and that is how I learned something new today. Apparently, sombody(ies) went up there and busted holes in the wall to steal the copper. I have never heard about that! He told me that I should have called the police, but I didn't realize that was going on! Now, I am kind of in a mental blur, because as I type I hear someone walking around up there. The maintence man told me I should look to see if his truck outside if I hear commotion, if its not then call the police.

Now, I am walking around my apartment in a pair of Air Max while I wait for them to send someone with a WetVac to get the unwanted and unneeded water out of the carpet in my bedroom, the hallway, and dining room. I'll have to mop up the water in the kitchen in the kitchen and bathroom. I can hear ya'll jealousy through my computer!!

While I wait, here is something that I wish I had right now:

Jeffrey Campbell 'Welly' rain boots

Stay Stylish! ( BTW, the carpet guys arrived and are upstairs. So, hopefully they will be down here soon!)

Spring Trend Watch: Polka Dot Dresses

This past fall, polka dot dresses made a brief appearance, but you definitely need one this spring! You can dress them up or down, which is a good reason to have on anyway! Since there are so many various colors, styles, and dot sizes, everyone can find a dress to add to their closet for spring and the long run. Therefore, I have taken the opportunity to sprinkle a couple of chic choices for you to ponder on!

Navy Polka Dot Dress, $39, Hot Kiss; INC Dot Print Wrap Dress, $119, Macy's; Nine West Big Dot Halter Dress, $130, Macy's; Tocca 'Rafaella' Dress, $308, Nordstrom; Polka Dot Jersey Dress, $52, Plasticland; Moschino Polka Dot Dress, $1,230, BlueBee; Dot Printed Charmeuse Halter Dress, $24.50, Wet Seal; INC Mod Dot-Printed Bubble-Sleeve Dress, $119, Macy's

I recommend that when accessorizing and building a "look", stray from patterns and too much jewelry. Embrace solid and bold color handbags and shoes. The color should depend on the color of the dress, but don't be afraid to play with colors!

I'VE BEEN TAGGED....I'll survive!

While catching up on my blogroll, I found out that I have been tagged by not one but two people; Jamie@ City-itis and Kia @ Yummy 411! I've been dodging this game for awhile, but luckily I was tagged by two of my favorites. So, no harm!

1.) I don't have a valid license! Its expired and been expired for a while. Its been so long that it still says "Under the age of 21". Hello, I am now 25! Plus, they have even changed the look of the license/ID! Now, that I have admitted it, I think that I am gonna get that fixed. However, I hate to drive so much that my car is in Mississippi @ my dad's place. I'm not sure if I'll start driving again, but who knows with me!

2.) 5 Shows I'm Addicted to:

  • Playmania~ But I've never tried to play!
  • Ugly Betty~ Like I'm the only one!
  • Lost~ I can't wait 'til that comes back
  • The Game~ A newbie, but love just as much!
  • The Hills~ I think I watch for the fashion, because the dialogue and situations seem to be staged!

3.) 5 Movies I Can Watch Over and Over:

  • Clueless
  • The Color Purple
  • The Wedding Planner
  • Devil Wears Prada
  • For the Love of Ivy

4.) Five places I've visited:

  • Atlanta~ Who hasn't?!
  • Detroit
  • Chicago
  • Madrid, Spain
  • Minneapolis~ The Mall of America, duh!

5.) I wanted to be a lawyer. Like Jamie, I too wanted to be a lawyer, but I wanted to study Media Law with an emphasis on internet. I even got a late acception to the U of M law school with my dad offering to pay. However, after putting five years in undergrad, I was not in any mood to do some more time that soon. Therefore, I just let it slide and never brought it up again. Almost three years later and I have no regret!

While I was typing this, I was thinking about who I want to tag. Therefore, I am tagging  Traci @ Fashionista and Baby, Erica @ Hooks and Needles and the one and only Cheap Chica!

I Adore Vintage...I really do!

If you are one of those incredible chicas who's been shuffle to my site frequently, thanx by the way, then you know that I adore pieces of clothing that I am pretty sure won't be duplicated by people in places I frequent. Therefore, some of the best clothing places in the world are thrift stores, but if you live in a city such as myself where the thrift stores are really junk a indoors junk yard then the next best place is vintage clothing boutiques online. One of my favorites is Adore Vintage.

They have some of the cutest things that make me stare at my computer in a slight daze for well over 10 minutes at a time. The only drawback to these sites is the size limitation and of course, the pieces move so quick. One shirt(pictured) that I had my eye yesterday has already been sold! So here are a few select pieces that are currently on the sale block but move quick, because I hear a girl from Memphis is closing in on a couple of these!

1970s Victorian Patisserie Blouse

Day At The Harbor Gown ~ I wish I could fit this!!

Southern Love Earrings

Sugar Cane Key Clutch

Visit Adore Vintage for yourself to see what you can seize for, because there is nothing like being asked "Where did you get that, its soooo cute!?" and you respond "Oh, some online vintage boutique, but I can't remember the name!" You don't everyone knowing your little style spots!

Reader's Mail: Curly Gurl Problem!

I am kinda behind with my Inbox, especially with reader's mail, but I am trying to get to them as soon as possible. Here's one that I actually had an immediate answer for.

I am biracial, like you, and for the past few months I have been wearing my hair naturally curly. I have also gained an addiction for Miss Jessie's products, especially the Curly Buttercream. Unfortunately, the price of her products are hurting my pockets. Do you know of any cheaper alternatives for curly hair? ~ Thalia

Well,Thalia, Traci recently posted about the love of Miss Jessie's, but also how much they hurt the pockets and I agree. Miss Jessie's is like crack, once you get hook its done! However, I do know of another line for curly hair that is almost as good and a whole lot less!

The line is called Curls, pretty simple and to the point don't you think!! Anyway, I haven't had the chance to try all the products from this line but the few I have are great alternatives.

The first one is Curls' Milkshake. Its a lovely 4 in 1 conditioner that is perfect for maintaining moisture in your hair. Occasionally, I use it in the morning to revive the moisture and softness that my satin cap can't always keep, but mostly I use it immediately after I wash and/or condition my hair. I then let it airdry and call it done! Its very light and creamy, which makes it perfect for most hair types.

However, if you are like me and are cursed with super thick hair, then the Curl Milkshake can't save you all the time. That's when its time to break out the big guns or in this case Curls Whipped Cream, which is a really heavy cream that delivers moistured curls out of dry kinks. This is what I use when I am delicately rationing out my Miss Jessie's Buttercream, because it also helps tame edges and holding curls. Plus, it smells incredible. Can't go wrong with a faint vanilla scent in your hair!

I hope this helps, because I highly recommend these two products in particular. I do, however, want to try a couple more products from them and I just might!

Take my breath away!

Stuart Weitzman and the ultra trendy store Scoop NYC teamed up and created a line of shoes exclusively for Scoop NYC. The gold platform slingbacks as this month's "Fashion Item of the Moment" is a product of this marvelous merger as well as the shoes below!

Stuart Weitzman for Scoop NYC Snakeskin Slingbacks, $245

I consider this the perfect shoe and/or style to start building your personal Spring wardrobe around. They go with basically anything, but I would love to pair these with a pair of black burmuda shorts and a white top and build from there! Ooohhhh, I think I am smelling a look inspiration for E-Stylist!! Loving them! BTW, if gold is not your color, they also have them in silver!

First Oscar and now this!

Have you ever watched "Rudolph the Red Nosed Riendeer" and thought to yourself, "Man, the adominal snowman is fierce!" and/or " I want that fur he's rocking!" Yeah, neither have I, but if you have, no fret my pets, you too can now have the horredous, dehydrated, nappy-esque fur just like him!

I was almost hesistant about even giving the link to this Voom faux Fur coat, but I believe fashion/style is individually different and maybe that someone out there can pull this off to make even moi want one. However, don't hold your breath, though!

IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!

I woke up to 24 degree weather this morning! Finally!! I guess Mother Nature got sick of those stern letters I have been sending her. I spent most of the day walking around novelty knitted socks and a terry cloth bath robe that makes me resemble a Smurf, because of the color that matches the lovely shade of Smurfette & Co..

All that aside, the freezing weather made me dig into my outerwear stash in my bookmarks and throw a couple up for you to consider adding to your fashion fortress A.K.A closet!

TOGA PARTY!

As most of you know, the Golden Globes were held ltonight at the Beverly Hills Hilton or whatnot and of course I was all about it. Truthfully, I was watching for two reasons; how many awards would "Dreamgirls" win(3 by the way) and to take notice of all the fashion that strutted down the red carpet.

The apparent trend of the night was Grecian Goddess! It was all about the white and cream colored toga looking dressing accented with gold. I LOVED IT!!

Just in case you want to know what constitutes a grecian look, think what would a Greek goddess  adorn herself in? Dresses pulled and pinned up on the hip or shoulder or neckline with gorgeous and precise draping and/or ruching! Here are some standout ladies from last night that apparently got the memo of grecian being in. WHERE THE HELL IS MY MEMO!

Salma Hayek

Hayden Panettiere in Monique Lhuillier

Drew Berrymore in John Galliano for Christian Dior

Ellen Pompeo in Versace

Kate Winslet in Azzaro

Sara Paulson

Sienna Miller

My personal faves of the above ladies are Salma Hayek (its hard for her to do wrong in my book!), Ellen Pompeo, and Sienna Miller.

Release your inner muppet!

Don't know what to do on a rainy day while trying to prolong some much needed websites updating? One thing to do is cuddle up with your God daughter and catch up on 20 years of Sesame Street. That street done got crowded since I last watched an episode about 20 years ago!

Anyway, after gracefully bowing out after a mere three episodes, I already knew the alphabets, I decided to partake in my normal hobby; e-site shopping! Its like the fashion website gods directed me to this, because of all the remenients of muppet hair that were still in my memory:

Alexander McQueen Feather hem dress, $10,730

The color is too Oscar the Grouch for me!! Give me a brighter color next time, Alex!

Bookmark Blowout: Jewelry!

In the past, I was never really a jewelry person. As long as I had a lovely pair of hoops, a simple gold necklace and my diamond cluster ring; I was content in the jewelry department of my wardrobe. However, last year was accessories and jewelry year. To be fashionably acceptable, you had to have a couple of long and/or chunky necklaces, a buttload of bangles, and a fabolous and fruitful collection of earrings. Needless to say, I was all over this trend. Therefore, I had bookmarked and/or bought alot of jewelry...fake and real. So, here are a few pieces that have been relaxing in my bookmarks!

Refinery 29 Shops

I have to interrupt the Bookmark Blowout with a fantabolous new online store that you should definitely check out.

Refinery 29 is the first ever shopping community that is made up of independent boutiques and designers.

Basically, if you are like me and thrive on finding and being seen in pieces that make you almost certain no one else in your daily haunts will be seen in, then this is the site you should visit daily!

Maybe its the inner web developer/designer and mall stalker in me, but I love the look and navigation of the site. The navigation looks just like the maps in malls of all the stores. Loves it!

If you don't believe me, then here are a couple of things to entice you to stop by:

Shelly Steffe Black Kimono Wrap

Lisa Levine Voodoo Bracelet

The site is still growing, but is definitely worth your presence! Check them out! Refinery 29 Shops
