Weekend Overload: I need some 'me' time!

Yes, another weekend has approached. I must admit that I am glad, because I need to go soak up some spring sun! I have been stuck in front of my computer dealing with three different assignments, not to mention updating this blog frequently! Needless to say, a girl needs the glare of the sun instead of a computer screen!

Actually, a friend and I have been invited by another friend to partake in the luxury of spending Saturday afternoon at one of the most siddity spas in the city! I can't wait, because I need a hot stone massage and mani and pedi like nobody's business!

Have a fantabolous weekend, chicas!

Weekend Movie

I have recently discovered for myself the magnificent musical West Side Story. I have always heard about it, but never got around to watching it entirely. When it came on a few weeks ago on AMC, I decided to record it. Boy, am I glad that I did. I have watched it three times already, this week alone. LOVE IT! The music, the dancing, and the story itself had me in awe. I'm so ashamed that I am 25 years old and just fell in love with West Side Story! Hey, I didn't hear about the movie 'Carrie' until I was 14 and in the ninth grade! I have issues!

Bright Idea

For the past few days, I have been wandering about which shades of polishes I should start sporting this spring/summer. Currently, as I type, I am wearing a soft pink polish by Nubar called Cupid. I love the polish, but the fashion fibers in my body are telling me that it's not the color I should be wearing this season.

Today, I saw this picture of Lindsay Lohan (ignore the horrendous casual outfit) coming out a nail salon rocking some neon pink nail polish. It instantly took me back to junior high circa 1996 and the trend of acrylic nails slathered in bright, neon pink or green nail polish.

After the flashbacks to my junior high crush Michael and flirting with him while twisting my hair with my bright pink nails, I thought I wouldn't mind testing the bright pink polish water, again! However, I am just gonna test it on my toes, for now. That way, it'll be my little secret!

Therefore, I made it my mini mission tonight to go find some bright pink polishes. Here are the finalist!

Hollywood Pink by Nubar- Love how it looks kind of shiny!

Hot Pink by Nubar- Classic hot pink, Gotta love it!

Strawberry Electric by Revlon- Bright, but chic!

What do you think? What colors are you wearing on your nails this season? Help a chica out!

Cake Walk

Vanessa and Angela Simmons have started a footline based around pastries. The line is called the Pastry Footwear Cake Collection and inspired by various cake flavors.

There are four designs in the collection and each design is named after a cake flavor. Also, the shoes will come with a matching lip gloss named and flavored after the attached design.

A look at behind-the-scene launching of the line can be seen when Run's House returns April 12. I love that show!

I think it's a pretty dope concept, because I love girly sneakers! However, I hope that the shoe is not scented, because that will be a little on the corny side not to mention that artificial sweet scents can be a little nauseating!

Reading is fab and fun-damental!

As much as I love shopping and virtually stalking fab finds, I equally love books! I feel that reading helps me keep my brain pumping since I graduated from college. I don't think that reading blogs and the ticker at the bottom of ESPN and CNN keep the brain cells multiplying!

Therefore, I decided it was about time I give my ever bulging bookshelves some competion to vie for my attention. Here is what I picked up as I desperately tried to avoid wandering into Macy's and hitting the bag/shoes/cosmetic departments. Damn Macy's for having those departments right next or directly across from each other!!!

Oh, yeah, books.

Women, Race, & Class by Angela Davis- I first had to read this book in college for African American Political Thought from 1900. Long title, but great class. I believe its a book that EVERY woman should read to see what our sex had to overcome, especially black women. I read this book and the Bible at least once a year. However, I lost this book and I desperately needed to replace it. Actually, I was shocked to find the book in the store. I thought that I was gonna have to go online! Anyway, I have already started reading it again.

Skinny Bitch by Kim Barnouin- I am definitly not the thinniest/smallest person in the world. I don't mind, because I think curves are FABOLOUS! However, I am not the healthiest eater in the world. That, I don't like. I heard that this is one of those books that is blunt and kind of vulgar, but delivers the info and facts that you need to know to improve your eating habits. The last time that a book did that to me was after I read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle. I lost about 15 pounds in a month from lack of desire to eat meat. You have to read it to know what I mean. Anyway, I have glossed over a few pages of 'Skinny Bitch' and I already feel like I've been slightly abused verbally! Excited!!

The Answer by Randy Pope- I am so sick of hearing about this book and "new" way of thinking and achieving success. However, since our country's queen a.k.a Oprah talked about it on her show, I felt that it was more than worth the buy. Definitely, I'm gonna read this! However, this will probably be the last of the three that I read.

Well, those are the newest additions to my bookshelf, Feel free to increase your brain cells and grab a new book!

STYLE LESSON: Know Your Body!

Trust me when I say that I tried my hardest to overlook another fashion faux pas that "Gina" strutted down the red carpet this past weekend, because I have about three hour of "Martin" saved on my DVR for rainy days. However, I couldn't bite my lip this time after she decided to stroll down a red carpet serving up a big, steaming pot of hot mess!

She has such a shapeless body, which doesn't help when you have the stomach of a male stripper...what I've heard. Anyway, when you have such a manly stomach and not a womanly curve in sight, wearing super low-rise jeans and a one button cropped jacket as a top is not the way to go. She is just drawing attention to an area of her that needs to be hidden under a waist cinching dress!

Its been a minute since Tisha has looked "presentable" on a red carpet. Keep trying, Gina!

Yay or Nay: McQ Cricket Sweater Dress

McQ Cricket Sweater Dress, $525, Net-A-Porter

I hope I don't know anyone who would have the audacity and style to wear this, at least around me. Although I am a semi sports enthusiast, I know absolutely nothing about the sport of cricket. However, if this dress coincides with the style of the sport, maybe its a good thing and sure that I never will!

What was McQ thinking?! Actually, I am not thoroughly shocked, since they also brought us this lovely piece. Remember?

Would you rock it or throw rocks at it? I am sure that $525 price tag is not helping you coming up with a yay opposed to a nay!

Super Sucky Saturday

I had one of the worst days on Saturday!! First my cat got out of the house and I was not able to find her at all! For the rest of the day I just pictured her wandering around in her pink plaid collar, meowing and looking lost. Depressing. Finally, around 11 last night, she found her way back home drenching in dirt and WITHOUT her pink plaid collar. I think she got into a fight or two, but I'm glad she is back! However, I am a little salted about that collar!

Then, on Saturday, my Memphis Tigers finally lost a basketball game after 25 straight wins. At least they lost to a superb team; Ohio State. Now, I need to find another team to root for. More than likely, I will be rooting for Florida to do a repeat! GO GATORS!

After a down out depressing day involving the cats in my life, I had to find a something to attempt to lift my spirits and flatten the puffiness under my eyes. After browsing my basket full of skincare items that I have personally collected or were sent to me, I found one that peeked my interest:

Benefit DePuffing Action Eye Gel, $24, Sephora

I am not exactly sure how this got in my apartment, but boy am I thrilled!! After the day of shedding a tear here and there, this gel definitely helped in knocking the puffiness off my face. The coolnees factor from the gel was way off the chart. It almost felt like I was rubbing a melting ice cube under my eyes. Although it did depuff, it didn't do it in the amount of time that I thought it should have. It took a few more minutes. In the end, it definitely was a good find in my basket of beauty! I give this 3 out of 5 winks from unpuffy eyes!

Weekend Overload: Elite Eight, Baby!!

OH.MY.GOD!!! My blood pressure is still up from that nail bitter of a game my Tigers had to play last night! It's been a minute since I have been that stressed! Luckily, though, we pulled it out and on our way to meet Ohio State in the Elite Eight. I love this time of year!

Need something to do this weekend? Well, I suggest that you go digging through your closet and evaluate all your clothing and etc. I briefly ventured into the deep corner of my closet and found this moraccan* style shirt that I completely forgot about! Behind that shirt were about three other spring/summer tops that completely slipped my mind. Therfore, I plan on spending some time Sunday afternoon exploring my closet and seeing what else I can re-discover! Have a fantabolus weekend!!

Spring Trend: White Eyelet Dresses

If there is a dress that you should have this spring, it is definitely a white eyelet dress. White eyelet dresses take me back to my little chica days, Easter in particular! I was usually bad with keeping white dresses clean and prestine, but I could keep a white eyelet dress squeaky clean. I miss those days!

Anyway, I have noticed alot of eyelet dresses around, including a new addition to my closet this weekend. In case you and your closet are interested in adding one, then here a few prime candidates!

Let's be real, now at some point in our lives we were donned in a jumpsuit via are parental executives. More than likely, in your first half a decade on this planet. Working Fabolously!

Recently, I have TEMPORARILY taken on handling the start-up PR for a friend of mine's non-profit project. Therefore, I have been taking on a couple of meetings with complete strangers trying to get them to pause for the cause.

However, while I am trying to promote and conduct research, I have to have a laptop bag strapped to my hip at all times for the next couple of months. Since that has to be, I have pulled out my laptop bag from last year to help me feel a little more stylish since my suit of choice is black.

Although I adore that bag, that doesn't mean I can't look for other cute laptop bags.

Just in case you are also in the market for a cute laptop tote, then here are a few that have caught my eye.

New Year, same delimma!

Everytime the weather starts to motivate my skin to moisturize itself via sweat, I find myself sitting indian style in front my closet taking a visual inventory of all things warm weather associated. One item, or maybe I should say section, that I do a visual beeline to is to my white bottoms (i.e skirts, jeans, etc).

Every year, I always feel that my white jeans from the year before are no longer the blinding white jeans that I spotted in the corner of a Macy's shivering in hopes that someone buys them. Now they seem like a beige pair of aging jeans that should be cut up and sprayed with imitation Windex to clean my TV and computer screens!

I am more than positive that it's my imagination coming up with an instant excuse to buy a new pair to stay in my personl "in" crowd. In case I give a pop quiz, I am the only one in this self imposed "in" crowd that I type of!

Despite the brief rambling I just did, it still didn't defer me of buying a new pair of white jeans this season; better luck next year... I hope! Anyway, this season, I am all about the the straight leg jeans and pants. I have already spotted a pair of jeans and cropped pants that would probably fit in anyone's wardbrobe!

Truck Straight Leg White Jeans, starting @ $36.50, Alloy

These jeans are perfect for almost everyone, because they go all the way up to a size 25. Straight leg equals very slimming! Loving it!! That is the major reason I have been eyeing them like crazy for the past couple of months.

Staying with slimming effects!

Tribal Crop Pants w/ Tummy Control, $52, Nordstrom

Can a stomach be too flat? I think not!

Everyone needs a pair of white pants and jeans, because they are the perfect pairing to all these bright colors we should be filling up our closets with!

Rainbow Bright Revisited

If you come to this blog frequently, then more than likely you are probably aware of the bold, bright color clothes that are neccesary this spring.

I need to make something clear, when I say bright colors I don't mean you should break out all those neon colors from the early 90s. Its kind of sucks because, I was hoping to start sporting my old "Can't Touch This!" t-shirt with neon pink and green hand prints all over it. Yes, I was one of the flyest fourth graders in the world! WORD!

Back to fashion reality!!

Personally, I feel more than prepared, because of all the fabric findings I have gathered over the years to give my outfits that "splash of color" that I love! However, I feel that I am lacking in this trend's area of bottoms. I have a few red pants and solid color skirts, but nothing major.

I guess I will have to start looking into expanding that area of my closet. Just in case you don't know where to start, might I suggest a few things to get you in the "spring" of things. I have been fashionably feening for most of these items for a while, myself!

Button Babydoll, $30.50, Alloy; Sam Edelman 'Celine' Flats, $89, Macy's; Red Buckle It Up Bag, $36, Fred Flare; Milly Ruffle Wrap Dress, $460, Intermix; Dioscuri Wood Bangle, $68, Nordstrom; Faux Patent Frame Handbag, $14.99, Target; Blodwen Capris, $24.99, Go Jane

I'm Buying It!: Polka Dot Sugar Skull Tote

You all should already know by now about my love of big bags, totes in particular. However, this past winter I got really addicted to clutches! I purchased about 5 different clutches, which was very weird considering I usually hiss at bags smaller than a high school English book filled with thousands of stories!

Since the weather is warming up, today I plan spending my time going to through my personal bag boutique and pull all the bags that scream "warm weather" to me! Mostly, I associate bright and/or printed totes with the warmer seasons. I think its because I tote(no pun intended) more, like tissues to dap the sweat and all the make-up I need for touch ups instead of the usually winter purse make-up neccesities of lip gloss and a mirror. Don't get me started on the "tools" I need to fight those diabolical sun rays!

Anyway, I have decided to buy this tote to add to my spring/summer bag collection.

Brown Polka Dot Sugar Skull Tote, $44, PLASTICLAND

It has color, detail galore, and it's different, which I love! I hear that they are going to introduce a black version of this tote in May, but I am loving this brown one. The hearts are in tweed and the skull is satin with a pretty, cutsey print! Lovely!! There is also a matching wallet, but current wallet says "No, for now!"

Anyway, I am definitely ordering it this week!
