Animalistic Accessories

In the past, I have not been the biggest fan of animal print and believe that they should only be consumed and worn in small doses. Even in small doses, leopard print could still irk me. However, finally there is an animal print that has stolen a piece of my heart and room in closet; giraffe print! Something about this print is so cute, but not overly exhausting on a outfit like some animal prints.

Giraffe print shoes and handbags are my favorite obsession. The print is bold in design, but soft in color due to the contast of brown and tan. A bought a pair of giraffe print pumps this weekend and I love them. They look chic and stylish pair with brown and black slacks and a cream top. You should try it! Also, giraffe print jewelry is a big plus!

A. Jeffrey Campbell 'Flapper' Calf Skin Flats, $79.95, Nordstrom; B. Giraffe Print Needlepoingt Tote, $208, Neiman Marcus; C. Wide Giraffe Print Enamel Ring, $759, Fancie Face; D. Dooney & Bourke 'Giraffe' Medium Sac, $325, Macy's; E. Linea Paolo 'Germaine' Giraffe Print Pump, $119.95, Nordstrom; F. Facade 'Ella' Peep Toe Wedge, $109,95, Nordstrom; G. Winter Fresh....Hands

Just like with your precious tresses and face, when the weather and air starts to get colder you have to readjust that beauty regimen that got you through the summer. Believe it or not, colder weather is harsher on your nails than warmer weather. That chilly air not only cools you down, but has the potentials to break your nails and dry out your hands and those oh-so delicate and nourish needing cuticles. Also, it doesn't help that people tend to wash their hands more in the winter to avoid germs and getting sick.  Water + Cold Weather= DRY, CRACKED, HANDS! Not a good look from any angle.

The first and most important product you should have for your hands is a supreme hand cream. In the summer, it is suggested that your hand cream is light, but packed with the efficient vitamins to keep your hands and nails soft. However, in the winter, your hand cream should be slightly heavier to counteract that dry skin that cool air lays in your hands.

Here are two of my favorite hand creams that are prefect for you and prepping your hands for winter.  I have been using them both for over a  week, because I have been experiencing some ridiculously cold Memphis mornings and my hands have been taking a beating even with gloves!

If you want an incredible hand cream with an equally incredible price, then Curel Targeted Therapy Fast-Absorbing Hand and Cuticle Cream is the one for you. Curel has a great and afforbable line of hand care products (Hello, nail polish removers), so leave it to them to also carry a a great hand cream. Its loaded with soy milk, vitamin E, and my new favorite oil; Manoi! Manoi softens everything from hair to skin and it is a definite need in any skin oil collection. Curel's hand cream slaps the dryness off yor hands instantly and absorbs fabolously into your skin with no residue! Score. Plus, it helps soften your cuticles, which makes it that much easy to tend and gently push them back out of sight!

Lush is one of make fab fav beauty lines with some of the most luxurious hand and body creams. The one that I slattered on me all summer was the soft and succulent hand cream of Lemony Flutter. I love the scent of lemons, but this winter is all about almond and coconut scents of Lush's Smitten, Heavier than the rest, but absorbs quickly and beautifully!

I hope that helps the next time you glance at your hands and they are so white and dry that it looks like you were playing in flour!

Coated Up '07...Gold Metallic

Baby Phat Metallic BomberIn this session of Coated Up 2007, I am going to show some examples of a coat trend that I did not see coming: Metallic! After years of gushing and grabbing for anything metallic gold, I have actually started to turn away from anything that resembles an overdose of gold lame' or put me in the running for Solid Gold dancer of the year. However, overdoses of metallic gold and silver are storming closets and stores everywhere including in my beloved outerwear department! The Baby Phat bomber to the right is actually pretty fly to me. One suggestion, if I may; if you are thinking about embarking on the mission of buying and wearing a metallic coat, stick with black or white clothing. I don't believe our eyes can take a gold metallic coat paired with bright red pants. Do you? Take it easy, will ya!

Fab Find...Polka Dot Make-Up Cases

Its not just the cute factor of the patent vinyl polka dots that I picked these make-up cases by Murval as the latest edition of my 'Fab Find' collection. Along from the fact that you get all three cases for under $30, they are also vegan-friendly, roomy, and ultra-glam in retro fashion! Fab, indeed!

Stylish Steal...Oversized Sweaters

I'm not sure if its the rain or dear mother nature finally got all my e-mails, but the cold weather is slowly trickling into Memphis and have left me with nothing but a scavenger hunt of all things warmth related. While at The Fusion Boutique, I stumbled across these versatile and chucky, yet chic oversized sweaters. The grey one would look perfect with a fitted balck turtleneck, black leggings and shiny black booties! The purple one is the perfect topping for a white tee and jeans look! Anyway, the possibilities and price are too much to not want these sweaters! Plus, its a one size fits all! Fab for all!

Fashion Bullies Attack--In Middle School
As More Designers Target Kids, Label-Consciousness Grows;
The Snarky 'Nice Clothes'

Vanessa O'Connell (Wall Street Journal)-Aryana McPike, a sixth-grader from Springfield, Ill., has a closet full of designer clothes from Dolce & Gabbana, Juicy Couture, True Religion and Seven For All Mankind. But her wardrobe, carefully selected by a fashion-conscious mother, hasn't won her friends at school.

Kids in her class recently instructed her that she was wearing the wrong brands. She should wear Apple Bottoms jeans by the rapper Nelly, they told her, and designer sneakers, such as Air Force 1 by Nike. She came home complaining to her mother that "all the girls want to know if I will ever come to school without being so dressed up."

Sixth-grader Aryana McPike with her mother, Ava, whose idea of fashion differs from that of Aryana's classmates.

Teen and adolescent girls have long used fashion as a social weapon. In 1944, Eleanor Estes wrote "The Hundred Dresses," a book about a Polish girl who is made fun of for wearing the same shabby dress to school each day. The film "Mean Girls" in 2004 focused on fashion-conscious cliques among high-school teens. But today, guidance counselors and psychologists say, fashion bullying is reaching a new level of intensity as more designers launch collections targeted at kids. * Click link below to continue*

Who? What? REN!!

This summer, my cousin Claire, who lives in London, came to visit me all the way here in Tennessee...how nice of her! Anyway, along with her intelligence and goofy personality, she brought along her skincare regimen that mostly included products from a line I had never heard of called REN. Being the beauty junkie myself, I snuck and tried some of her face wash and mask. Seriously, it was like falling head over heels at first rinse! It became my secret indulgence at night after she fell asleep and I was hooked for five days straight. Like most summer flings, I quickly forgot all about it and went back too my Clinique and Neutrogena after they flew back to the other side of the pond!

This weekend, I was virtually wandering around an overseas' beauty store hoping to scoop some unheard of overseas beauty products to test drive, and guess who was waving at me from the organic section with the other skincare products...REN! Yes, there were those simple designed yet powerful bottles that I shared a few GREAT nights with over the summer and all those memories of  lovely scents and smooth skin came rushing back to me! I had to find me some REN and get into good graces with my skin, again. Luckily, I didn't have to convert my dollars into pounds either, because I found some at my local Sephora, as will my fellow Americans!

The face wash of choice for me and my ance prone skin is REN's Mayblossom and Cypress Facial Wash. Its a VERY gentle wash, which is needed for acne/sensitive skin, that makes your skin fresh and brand new! Like a rebirth every time that you use it! The scent is so light, but so relaxing to your senses and skin. My pores? Oh, they were left squeaky clean and almost invisble! What else could you want from a facial wash?!

Like most face mask, I didn't and won't indulge in this everynight, because they can become very drying to the skin. REN's Enzymatic Facial Mask is like a fast for my skin, because it detoxified my skin like it claimed it would. Hard to believe most skincare product promises, but this one held up! My complexion was left smooth, but with a glow! Loving it!

Now don't get me wrong, REN is a quite pricey, but it's ssssoooo worth the splurge! However, the high price tag is limiting my testing process, but I am eyeing one of their moisturizers! Hmm, maybe it should go on my Christmas list? You can get REN at Sephora or where Claire orders her's from, Beauty Expert.

Coated Up...Candy Coated

Emma Hooded Toggle Coat, $89.50, Delia's; Wool Pea Coat, $36.50, Wet Seal; Double Breasted Peacoat, $75.60, Alloy; Sasha Funnel Coat, $89.50, Delia's; Hooded Wool Peacot, $76.50, Alloy; Amelie Coat, $88, Francesca's; B.B. Dakota Manhattan Red Coat, $67, LULU'S Fashion Lounge

Everyone needs a coat in a bright, vivid color other than black, brown, and/or navy. In most industry circles, it's a fashion felony to not have at least a red coat! Personally, it took me years of courage and gumtion to work up the nerve to buy and wear a red coat without the fear of someone screaming "Kool-Aid" out! All that is behind me, but the desire for more candy colors in my coat closet is growing as should your desire! I'm itching for green one, myself!

Like most brightly colored accessories and clothing, they turn a simple ensemble into an eye-catching and chic outfit.  A rule to follow when shopping for a bright color coat is to stick with minimal details and clean lines, which makes a wool peacoat the perfect stepping stone to testing out the color coated water.

Nailed...Fall 2007

My nails are in celebratory mode, because I am finally through putting them through a whirlwind of nail polish, non-acetone nail polish remover, and cotton balls. After all that strain, I have tucked them in with a nice dose of cucumber cuticle oil to relax them and the promise of one polish-free week! The reason that I have been putting them through so much is because I have been trying to pick my favorites of the must-have nail colors for fall and I have narrowed then down to my fav 4!

When I first heard that yellow was one of 'it' colors in nail  polish this season, I instantly discounted that color would ever be seen on my nails. When it comes to nail color, I have always followed one self-imposed rule "Never wear polish on your nails the color of fungus" (i.e. green, blues, and yellow). Therefore, I was not super estactic about trying it out, but I felt that I owed it to my beauty junkie/ trend following self to test out the yellow. Although it definitely isn't an everyday color, it is a nice color to rock on weekend! I even got some compliments, but even the cutest of compliments can make me wear it often. It was is a nice alternative to my weekend hot pink!

Purple is DEFINITELY the 'it' color in every area of fashion and beauty and I am loving it! I wore this purple polish for a week straight and was gorgeous! It made me feel younger as I was flipping and flickering my fingers about to gather all the 'ooh's and 'aahh's that I felt that I deserved and got! This was a good one!

Anything silver is usually instantly scratched off my list, but polishes of gunmetal/chrome colors are too fierce to fight! Plus, since they aren't that bold or bright, they can easily be transistioned from day to evening and weekdays to weekends. They just scream sultry, confident vixen!

The black polish of last year is old news, because its all about the navy polish and my favorite is O.P.I's Russian Navy from their Russina Collection! Its a must-have on every fashionistas' list, including yours truly! I already have three bottles of navy polishes and looking to scoop more! Navy made a brief appearance last fall/winter in the form of extremely limited Chanel vernis polish, but as soon as it sold out everywhere so did the navy trend. However, navy is back and better and its my favorite nail trend this season!

Did I die!?!

I was wondering that question, because I receive 200+ readers around noon. Highest ever, but I didn't die I was just knee high in sending giveaway prizes out (they are on the way Tania, Joy, Precious, and Cecelia) and receiving a few for giveaways in the VERY near future. Plus, I was answering some mail and securing some business. However, despite all that, I am not not dead, but everything is straighht and shiny just like  my hair thanks to an incredble hair product that my friend and fellow beauty product junkie friend sent me!

Cool weather brings staight hair to my life, because wet/damp hair and cold morning weather is not the brightest or healtiest idea. So, yesterday I reached under my sink and pulled out mi amiga, CHI flat iron, and waved adios to my mane of curls and kinks, but before that washed and conditioned my hair and applied Drop Dead Straightening Baume by Philip B. to my damp hair. For a chica with thick, semi-course, curly hair, this stuff is a godsend! It de-frizzes, smooths, softens, and straightens; all the good stuff!

Not only does it do all that, it also shortens drying, which is a mega bonus for us always-on-the-run girls! It does all without that demonic hair product ingredient silicone, which is hinders more than it shines your hair! This magnificent "baume" is a little pricey, but oh so worth it! Go get some straight tresses that also has more bounce to the ounce, chicas!

Dry oil? Sounds like an oxymoron, but its not in this case. Almost instantly after your spray this on your skin, it disappears into your skin with nothing left except lightly scented soft skin!! Beauty Bonus Alert: It leaves a subtle glow on your skin! Very fab and there is also a lotion! I'm trying that next.

Bronze Flats

Well, for luch today I had a nice helping of style option pie with one of my lunchtimeYahoo messenging chicas and loyal readers, Nicole. Nicole was pondering buying some gold flats, but gold shoes and bags seem "too gaudy and Kimora", her words not mine, for her taste. My words and optionsare actually something I have been searching for to couteract my addiction to gold flats; bronze flats. They have just the right amount of golden hues, but not too overbearing and seem more suitable for the darker hues of fall/winter. So, you know the routine, I sniffed out a few bronze flats for myself, Nicole, and anyone else out there looking for another option other than gold!

Elizabeth: The Golden Age + Giveaway

Some of you already are aware of my high geek level. I LOVE books as much as I love a tube of Dior Show mascara. In fact, I think I have spent more hours wondering around Walden's Books than the Clinique counter. One genre of books that I really love to overdose on are ones pertaining to history, but I'm talking about victorian era. All the proper and intricate dialogue and petticoats and ruffle filled dresses have always been a personal fav of mine, hence my post yesterday about ruffle blouses!

Since I have been overdosing on the regal victorian era, I am kinda stoked to see Elizabeth: The Golden Age that hits theaters TODAY. Its the continuation of 1998's Elizabeth that I saw in high school for extra credit, but I enjoyed it!! I left the theater feeling like a was an urban queen in a mall of peasants. Yeah, mi madre knocked me off my pedastal ASAP!

Aside from the stellar cast of Cate Blanchett and Clive Owens, the filmmakers assembled a team of film artisans to re-create and re-imagine the glittering court of Elizabeth I, including: costume designer Alexandra Byrne whose inspiration came from the work of Spanish fashion designer and one of my personal favs Balenciaga, who had interpreted various historical paintings in his 1950s couture, including some Elizabethan pieces; and makeup and hair designer Jenny Shircore who evolved Elizabeth’s look, maturing her a middle-aged woman to eternally divine. As you can see above, they did an impeccable job of transfroming the actors to that era. Flawless make-up and gorgeous gowns always steals my interest. Hmmm, you think chalky, pale make-up will ever make a comeback? Let's hope not, I can't get with the ghost look!

To see trailers and to gawk and intake more of the wardrobe that are like pieces of art and scenes in their own right and to learn more about the story of Elizabeth sans books, then visit Elizabeth: The Golden Era site.

Oh, as for the GIVEAWAY, wouldn't it be super sweet and very deserving of respect to receive a box full of goodies that includes a movie poster, t-shirt, hat, lapel pin, female shirt, and a copy of Elizabeth to get you up to speed! Yeah, and then you can be part of my fashionista history buff squad and discuss it while gussied up, but that's up to you!

Anyway, all you have to do is email me your name and address to GIVEAWAYS@stainedcouture.com with the word "Elizabeth" in the subject line! I'm going to send it out pesonally and include a little surprise courteousy of yours truly. Hush, its a surprise, but super regal! Enter all weekend and I will let the winners know Monday. Gotta love free stuff, chicas!!

Victorian Vixens

Truthfully, I am one of the geekiest girls every! For the past month I have been really stuck on studying and investigating anything from the victorian era of Elizabeth I and all the other historically strong women of that era. However, my inner fashionista couldn't resist letting the extreme regality of the clothing to take over my independent studying! Therefore, I have been on my ruffle grind looking for some of the most regal clothing that could easily been seen draped on women from that era. Fortunately, one of these season's trends is embracing the femininity in your clothes! Yes, that does include ruffles! Score one for the history buffs and/or geeky fashionistas!

Here are few examples of tops that are oozing with enough regal femininity to get your feathered feathers ruffled. Tired of the variations of the word"ruffles", yet? ruffles.

A. Alice Temperley Victorian Ruffle-Front Blouse, $29.99, Target; B. Cielo by Froxx Silk Charmuese Ruffle-Trim Blouse, $87.99, Macy's; C. Difference America 'Chantel' Shirt, $116.90, Nordstrom; D. Diane von Furstenburg 'Goya' Ruffle Sleeve Shirt, $285, Nordstrom; E. O Oscar Silk Ruffle Pleated Shirt, $109, Macy's; F. Love Squared Ruffle Top, $36, Nordstrom

Eye Spy...Mary-Kate & Ashley's boots

Recently, the Olsen twins were seen at London's Heathrow airport wearing the same Christian Louboutin Ariella studded boots. Although I am not a 'stud embellished' girl, these are some pretty sick boots! However, at $1,150, I'll just have to look out for the Steve Madden knock-offs!

Haute Mama in the Making...Halle Berry

After wanting and waiting for a baby for so long, Ms. Berry has definitely been enjoying and embracing her pregnancy. In between her cravings for hot and spicy food and attending the premieres of her new movie "Things We Lost in the Fire", she has been preparing for her little bundle of more than likely gorgeous joy by hititng some of the best baby boutiques in and near Hollywood.

One boutique that she and her guy/baby father hit was West Hollywood's Petit Tresor. The happy family in the making picked up some too cute to not buy baby essentials including a couple of too-fab-to-be-diaper-bags, a couple of soft blankets, and adorable toys for the little tike!

If the beauty if the baby can grab your attention, definitely the baby accessories will.

*can you believe those are diaper bags!!

Yay or Nay...JuJu Pumps

JuJu Heel, $19.99, Go Jane

All I can think of when I see these shoes is the 80s movie Flashdance. Here is a little something about me when it comes to shoes, when I first see a pair I have a brain rush of possible outfit possibilities. Depending on if I can pull off any of the outfits that come to my mind, I scoop them. However, with these shoes I hit a couple of road bumps. I can picture pairing the shoes with some skinny jeans, but after that I am clueless! Therefore, these shoes are perfect for 'Yay or Nay'! So, yay or nay?

Saved.

For the past week, I have been waking up with some MAJOR cuts on my forehead. I seriously thought something was "wrong" with me, but my little sister of all people made me realize that I have been accidently scratching myself in my sleep.  Wow, am I 26 years old or 26 months old?! The next question: What to do to heal my skin in a healthy way while still being able to maintain my make-up addiction? Enter, Philosophy Save Me Night Treatments.

Over the past three nights, I have been applying this magical little solution to my face and over night my skin has been healing and glowing like crazy. Save Me is infused with enough Vitamin C, peptides, retinol, and antioxidants to smack almost any flaw off your face. I will admit that I didn't have to drop any money on this myself, but knowing what I now know it is definitely worth the $60. I wish I had this last week when I was sick as a dog and it showed all over my face! Medicine for the face. Lovely!

Statement Makers

Chunky is the style of choice when it comes to jewelry this season and the one area of you that should definitely tbe aking part in this trend are your fingers in the form of large, statement rings. Big and bright are the requirements for choosing a ring this season. Personally, I have always been a fan of gigantic rings, because they make fingers look thinner. So, I already have a few taking up residence in my jewelry box. However, to help gear some of your ladies into the right and bright lights of statement rings. Here are few fabulous and VERY affordable rings to help get you started.

A. Ariella Collection Oversize Cushion Cut Ring, $78, Nordstrom; B. Barse Oversize Turquoise Ring, $120, Nordstrom; C. Rings Eclectic Oversize Pink Ring, $88, Nordstrom; D. Bijou Rings, $14, mark; E.
