Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins on DVD 6/17 + Giveaway

Summer brings along not only heat, but all those planned family get-togethers a.k.a family reunions.

I haven't been to a family reunion in a couple of years, but I still remember all the fun and sometimes annoying memories. Those memories definitely came crashing back when I watched Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins.

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins follows RJ Stevens, a successful talk show host, as he returns to his small Southern town to celebrate his parents 50th anniversary after acquiring huge superstardom and a reality TV star fiancee'. Needless to say he and his new big-city attitude don't really mesh well with the small-town values, which brings along a hysterical ride.

One of the hardest things, for me, is trying to pack. That is really important when you are going to a different region. Believe me, going to Minneapolis from Memphis in terms of fashion was very weird for me a while back. The wild prints and colors, which MoNique's character wears in this movie would have stuck out like a sore thumb in Minnesota!

One rule that I have for packing when going out of town, especially for a family gathering is to "Never look like a tourist!" When you look like a tourist, it just leaves you open to so much! Believe me! So, here are some things to keep in mind when you are visiting a city for a family gathering.

  1. Souvenir Shirts...um..NO!- Of course you have to buy a souvenir to rememember your trip and all the fun you had, but if it has to be a shirt with the city's name on in...save it to wear back at home. Have you ever bought a tee shirt with your city's landmarks on it, unless its a college/university, and wore it around the city? I hope not.
  2. Basics, basically.- Seriously, the safest way to go stick with soldi color tops and nuetral bottoms. Sounds boring, but show your personality with your accessories. I love doing that!
  3. Jersey Girl- Take items that don't require alot of ironing. My fav material is jersey. Its a "grab and go" material and works all year around.
  4. Dress to Impress- Definitely make sure that you take something that is "dressy", because you never know what might pop-up be it an impromptu church service or a dinner at an upscale resturaunt. You never know, so be prepared!
  5. Enjoy yourself!- The most important thing to carry with you when visiting and seeing fam that you probably haven't seen in years is to enjoy the moment and people and have fun. Nobody wants to have a party pooper! In the fab words of Dave Chapelle as Rick James, "It's a celebration, bitches! Enjoy yourself!"

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins comes out tommorrow, 6/17, on DVD, but you can win before you can buy it! All you have to do is email your name and address to GIVEAWAYS@stainedcouture.com with Welcome Home in the subject. Enter as many times as you like up until noon e/t Friday, June 20!  Good Luck!
