Lust-Have List: February 2012

February snucked up on me, hence the this list being tardy. Nonetheless, here is the list of things I’m lusting for this month of love.

  1. DV by Dolce Vita Tulle Sandals, $79, Piperlime – This bi-polar weather washing over the country has me looking and lusting for sandals earlier than usual. I mean, Valentine’s Day hasn’t even showed up, yet! These classic brown espadrille wedges would look perfect for spring and summer, even though it’s still technically winter. *rolls eyes*
  2. Flip Flop Fantasy Nail Polish, $8, China Glaze – This is the polish currently on my nails that I picked out at the salon this past weekend to go over my gel overlay. It’s bright , almost florescent coral and I’m so in love with it to the point that I think this will be my staple color this spring and summer. Sorry, neon pink. 🙁
  3. Parker Navajo Print Sequin Jacket, $418, Piperlime – So beautiful! I’m not even into Navajo print, because I can’t really pull off “bold and colorful” prints, at times. However, I would love to have this jacket to throw over all black ensembles, which I’ve been frequently slugging out and about in.
  4. Gorjana Fremont Bracelet, $50, ShopBop.com – Simple and chic and I love the mixing of the media. Love!
  5. Steven by Steve Madden ‘France’ Leather Tote, $198, Nordstrom – It’s a big blue tote. I already love it! Plus, it has clean lines and minimal details. Pretty fabulous and I need it.

Leaps and Bounds

Leaps in life. The next big leap I want to take is to buy a house. Why beat around the bush? It’s something I’ve tried in the past and just fizzled out for numeroud reasons. However, like any big step in life, there are a couple of things I would like to do before approaching this huge task.

  • Learn to save more money. Probably the biggest hurdle I have in my life….PERIOD. I’m so focused on this step, that I’m actually looking at attending some money workshop on how to manage and control my spending.
  • Know what I want in a home. In case you didn’t know, buying a home can be expensive and requires you to stay their for awhile. So, making sure you have a  list of things you need is essential. I know more of what I don’t want than what I do. However, my wants are starting to flourish more as I delve more into this next big leap.

Kick of Pop

Spring can’t come quick enough for me right now. Here in Memphis, the weather has been super bi-polar this winter. There have been times that my feet have actually spent a December day in flip flops. Flip flops in December is acceptable and expectant in Florida and California, but not Memphis.

I saw these Jessica Simpson ‘Evannan” shoes a couple a weeks ago now that stores are putting out their spring inventory. Ever since I saw these colorfully cute platform sandals, I’ve been lusting after them. Plus, you all should no that I can’t get enough of cobalt blue anything, let alone shoes.  They are available in pink and blue.

Guidance is Golden

I’ve never been a fan of asking for assistance with anything. I was and still am the “independent”one of my parent’s children. So, whenever I want or need something, I’ve always seeked out how to get it myself.
Unfortunately, there have been a few times where I needed someone to help me and I just couldn’t swallow my pride to ask and instead, went without.

However, that all changed when I decided to go ahead and get my health on track. I’ve never been a skinny person. I’m always going to be naturally “chubby” and I’m okay with that. What I’m not okay with is the fat on top of the chubby that’s not trying to go away on it’s own. Oh, how I wish that could happen. Anyway, a few months ago I decided to join a gym. I thought that would be just what I needed and I could do everything myself.

Here’s the thing, gyms have a lot of equipment….A LOT! Aside for the treadmill, elliptical, and exercise bike, everything else just looked like extras from the Transformers movies. After a few weeks of going to the gym sporadically and just hopping on the treadmill for an hour, I knew I needed some help. So, my wallet and I discussed it and decided I should hire a trainer. I have an awesome trainer. Not only did he show me all the equipment and how to use it, but he also gave me the motivation to get up every morning and be deligent about going to gym and sticking to it.

So far, I’ve lost 10 pounds by just going to the gym and my clothes are starting to look baggy, which I’m not really feeling. Still, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made to ask for help and guidance to a path I’ve been trying to get on for years.

So, the moral of this small, but fat tale is that it’s okay to seek guidance when you can’t do it yourself. Hey, we’re not superheroes. Heck, even Superman needed Lois Lane to keep him in the loop on things. This is the time of year when you really need help for your taxes.
