RECENT EMPTIES: February 2015

recent_empties_feb2015

Last month, I was able to use up a few products that I was I’d meaning to use up and/or replace. As usual, there were some favorites and regrets, but all appreciated.

So, keep reading to see what beauty items I recently used up and quick reviews for this month’s recent empties.

  • TRESemme Dry Shampoo – This is my favorite dry shampoo It smells amazing, plus this formula is to add more volume. Repurchasing.
  • Carol’s Daughter Marula Mask – This mask didn’t really do much for me that I haven’t found in other hair masks that I’ve used. So, I doubt I repurchase this mask, but it was pretty good.
  • Maybelline Pumped Up Mascara – I will say this is one of the better drugstore mascaras that I’ve used. This mascara did amp up my lashes without clumping or flaking. I would repurchase this one.
  • InstaNatural Vitamin C Serum – Vitamin C serum is my latest obsession thanks to this product. You might remember me talking about this serum a couple of months ago, but it helped clear up my complexion and soften the texture of my skin. This is another repurchase.
  • Wet n Wild Bronzer (Bikini Contest) – My favorite drugstore bronzer, because it was dark, matte, buildable, and very affordable for less than $5. Plus, it lasted forever, because you get a so much for your buck. I’m buying this one, again.
  • Lippman Collection – I’ve had this polish for too long and finally had to let it go after using numerous polish thinners. This shade was the perfect milky nude polish and worked all year long. Loved this polish!

Multiple Purpose Makeup

Last week, I took on the daunting, yet fulfilling task of downsizing my makeup collection. It was something that was long overdue, because I can honestly say that I’ve only worn about 5% of the items in it.. in the past 2 years.

This downsizing was another task in my aspirations to lead a minimalist life, which is going pretty awesome.

While sorting through years of collected makeup, I realized that a lot of the products that I keep and use are products that have multiple uses and that’s why Paula Dorf’s Perfect Color stick in Ectasy made the final cut and pretty much lives in my makeup bag.

This creamy color stick can be used on your lips, cheeks, and eyes and creates the softest and illuminating looks in a pinch. The shade I have, Ecstasy, gives me just the right amount of natural pink to create the look of flushed cheeks and softly bitten lips with a sheer and luminous glow.

I need more of these sticks!

FYI – If you make a purchase, you will receive the gift of  a Paula Dorff mini No Color Glimmer, which is a gorgeously soft, lightweight powder to complete your look! The perfect accent to Ecstasy. USE CODE: ECSTASY

Also, Paula Dorf is giving away a makeup kit full of some of our favorite products! Have your readers can enter for a chance to win this Paula Dorf makeup kit ($125 value) here: https://promosimple.com/ps/66b5

BEAUTY BUYS: February 2015

recent_beauty_buys_feb2015_

I haven’t really been that interested in shopping, especially makeup and beauty products until recently. I purged so much unnecessary makeup and beauty products last week. So, I’ve only bought a few necessary products that I love and are staples. However, I couldn’t help but buy a couple of new items, that I’m not regretting.

  • Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Edge Control Smoother – It’s hard to find a edge tamer that’s not heavy, greasy, and/or leave a white residue. Well, controller from Carol’s Daughter is amazing. It slicks back and shines my edges. Plus, it glides on easily and is not heavy at all. Cherry on top? Lovely scent
  • Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser for Dark Circles – I’ve looked high and low and I’ve yet to find an undereye concealer that compares this one from Maybelline’s Age Rewind line. Rolls on smooth, sets flawlessl, and little to no increasing that covers instantly brightens my undereye area.
  • Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray – I’ll always love 2fers and I use this spray as a primer and setting spray. I spray it on my skin after moisturizing my skin, before applying my makeup and I also use it to set my makeup. It works awesomely.
  • Benefit Hoola Bronzer – If you are looking for a classic bronzer that works on various complexions, this cult favorite bronzer from Benefit is the one for you.
  • Real Technique Blush Brush – I’ve been obsessed with blush brushes and this is super soft and applies blush effortlessly and blends perfectly. If you haven’t checked out the Real Technique brushes, you should. Thank me later.

Basic Skincare Regimen (Day and Night)

daily_skincare_2015_stained

Eureka! I feel like I have found the perfect regimen for me that can work day and night…with as minimal products as possible.

Don’t get me wrong, a girl loves her scrubs, masks, and other luxurious feeling skincare products. Unfortunately, said girl doesn’t always have the time to partake in a mini at home spa moment. So, for a while I’ve been trying to come up with a quick and thorough skincare routine that uses as few products as possible, can be completed from beginning to the end within five minutes and can be used morning AND night. I believe that I have finally come up the right products for this feat.

  1. Cleanse – I apply a large pump of Cetaphil cleanser in my hands and rub on face to loosen makeup.  Then I rinse my face and rub in another pump on my makeup less face for one final cleanse. In the morning, one pump does it.
  2. Tone – I recently used up my Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion and replaced it with Mario Badescu Special Cleansing Lotion, which is formulated for oily, acne prone skin. The weather here in Memphis has been fluctuating and getting warm (Sorry my northeastern readers who are currently snowed in), which as caused my skin to get oilier and breakout. So, I switched to this formula, which has been working amazingly.
  3. Treat – This InstaNatural Vitamin C serum first entered my life when I was battling the flu a few weeks ago and it was a pretty much a miracle in a bottle for my dry and dull skin due to being sick. I apply this morning and night I’ve noticed that this has helped with clearing my skin discoloration, because it’s chunked full of skin benefiting and an-aging ingredients. I’m hooked on this stuff!
  4. Moisturize – Speaking of hooked on something; Argan Oil! Once you’ve used argan oil, its almost hard to not find a use in your everyday life. I use this as a  face moisturizer, cuticle oil, and I actually using it as a oil treatment for my hair as I type this. So many uses! I use 1-2 pumps in the morning and 2-3 pumps at night, because it instantly absorbs into my skin without an oily residue.

I’ve been using this routine for about 2 weeks now and it has been amazing. I try to use a mask once a week and add sunscreen to my skin in the morning. However, other than that, this has been my go-to routine and I’m loving it. I really suggest everyone to come up with a quick, but efficient daily skincare routine.

RECENT EMPTIES: January 2015

recent_empties_jan2015

I never thought I would get to the point in life where I would be borderline ecstatic to run out of a beauty product, especially makeup. Well, I’m there and I always feel a little proud when I can replace an item or go and buy a new item to try.

Recently, I decided to start investing in high quality makeup from classic and higher end brands, especially for face products (i.e. foundation, powders, skincare). So, I’ve been trying to use up as many drugstore products in my makeup collection as possible, especially those products that I really didn’t fancy. So, you will notice that the majority of the products I proudly used up can be found at your favorite local drugstore.

  • Luster’s Renutrients Revita-Shine Polish – I bought this products years ago at a women’s showcase and I was never a fan of it after the day I bought it. So, a couple of months ago I decided that I would used this up and I did, because this product was no longer friendly with my hair and didn’t really add much of a shrine.
  • Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion – I bought this a couple of months ago on a whim and I was pretty pleased with this toner and results and will purchase it again.
  • Rimmel Just Let Go Eye Makeup Remover – This eye remover was another whim that I bought, because I ran out of eye makeup remover  and this one was on clearance, The fact that it was clearance should have been the tell-tale sign. This remover claimed to be gentle. Well, there idea of gentle is the opposite of mine, because the remover used to sting my eyes. I was actually happy to use this up.
