WEEKEND AT HOME: Styled Coffee Tables

styled_coffee_tables_2015

With home decor, one of the main pieces that you can really give people a huge insight into your tastes and personal style is with what you place on your coffee table(s). Although, most rooms have many focal points, a well curated coffee table can be the main focal point in your living room.

Personally, I love my coffee table. I bought a few years on clearance from a furniture store that was going out of business and I got it for $100,which was amazing due to it being a big(read: heavy) wood table that had clean lines and a lower shelf. Plus, it was painted black, which was the my go-to color for wooden pieces the time.

Over, the years, there has been some wear to the table and the black paint has scraped off in some areas, but I love the well-worn look to it. However, I’m ready for a change to my living room, specifically my coffee table.

I want to brighten up the space. I’m thinking about painting it white and add colorful accents, book, and candles to brighten up the space. Well, now I want to brighten it up, but when I go paint shopping, I might decide I want to repaint it black or gold or teal. Who knows. What I do know is that I’m all about trying to curate the perfect coffee table.

So, I’ve gathered some ideas of fabulously curated and styled coffee tables.

Like with my personal style, I like punches of hot pink in my home decor. This table adds the just the right up glamour with stylish books and pops of bright pink.

Speaking of glamour, It doesn’t have to always be over the top. This retro 70s-esque brass and glass table is very  clean and classic lines.

However, you can never go wrong with simple and neutral, because it will always be chic like this table with its slightly masculine feel.

Changes to Celebrate Earth Day 2015

celebrate-earth-day-2015

Today is Earth Day.

The message of Earth Day 2015 is “It’s Our Turn To Lead”. Small changes can make a BIG impact to the betterment of our world.  So, keep reading to see a list of 5 things you can start doing right now that not only help you celebrate earth day, but that you can eventually implement into your life and feel good about…FOREVER.

  • Plant A Tree – The easiest and most beneficial things you can add to the earth.
  • Start Recycling – I will admit that recycling can be hard to get into the habit of doing, especially if you’ve never done it. However, if you start off small by separating cans and plastic, it’ll eventually become second nature.
  • No Plastic Water Bottles – Plastic bottled water consumes huge amounts of fossil fuels to produce and transport, and most of those recyclable water bottles end up in landfills. Instead, buy a refillable and permanent water bottle. They are so affordable! Even your local dollar store carries them. So, you can help your planet and pockets!
  • Buy locally – My favorite Saturday activity is going to one of my local farmers market. The produce is fresh and easy on the environment thanks to the lack of chemicals added to keep produce fresh while transporting it many miles away from the farm where it was grown. So, buy locally to help your environment, local economy, and farmers.
  • Walk More – Cut back on driving so much and go take a walk outside. Instead of driving to the gym to walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, go for a walk in your neighborhood or local park. Trust me, it feels better and is there a prettier time than springtime to be outside? I think not.

The Diary of a Super Chill Weekend

I don’t know about you, but I had a pretty chilled and laid back weekend. Nothing was planned and I enjoyed ever spontaneous moment, event the bouts of rain on Saturday that eventually lead to a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon.

So, here’s a quick rundown.

I finally switched out my fall/winter black MICHAEL Michael Kors bag and I’ve been switching between my neon yellow Rebecca Minkoff shoulder bag and a tan and gold sequin hobo that is everyday perfection.

White nails are my thing for spring. So, a fresh white manicure was the perfect cure for a cloudy day.Processed with VSCOcam

Spring rain can leave a mess on your face thanks to upped humidity. This weekend, I caught up with an old friend in this Magic Perfecting Base, I forgot how great this primer worked on my oily/combo skin in keeping my makeup in tact and place all day.Processed with VSCOcam

Yes, this happened. Funnel cakes are oh so lovely and sweet and apparently the perfect thing to share with your sister while at the park with your dogs or so I found out this weekend. I want another funnel cake right now.Processed with VSCOcam

Finally, I ended my super chill weekend with an equally chilled bottle of lemon Italian soda from Whole Foods. FYI – I’ve yet to meet a flavor of Whole Foods Italian soda that I haven’t loved and maybe bought in bulk form.

How To Learn Anything…Anywhere

learn_anything_anywhere_NOW

Practically any and every thing is available to you, via a click on your computer or a couple of taps on phone, which is awesome.

Like most people, when I want to find out how to do something really fast (i.e get a stain of carpet or hair tutorial) I hit up YouTube and for fast facts or info, there’s always my BFF, Google.

However, there are some skills and knowledge that aren’t so quick or beneficial to absorb instantly and requires dedicated time. In the past, when you’ve had the urge to learn a new skill, you signed up for classes at a local college/university or online classes.

Those options are still great, but the latest thing to help you learn, sharpen, or advance yourself in new skills are websites that offer online video courses. Not only are the courses in video format, but most of these sites offer a wide range of subjects for business or hobby. Plus, unlike online course via an online university, you have the option and convenience to complete these courses at your own pace, time, and location and for the fraction of the cost.

So, if you are looking to further your knowledge on business skills, software, or a hobby you’ve been meaning to take up, then try one of the sites below that will show you how to learn anything and anywhere.

  • Lynda.com – A membership based site that offers thousands of online video courses in everything from business skills, technology, and software that’s available from your computer and their app that’s available from iOS and Android.
  • Skillshare.com – Like Lynda.com, Skillshare is another membership based site with  online video course. However, Skillshare focuses on creative courses including photography, DIY, and even Entrepreneurship.
  • Udemy.com – Udemy, like Lynda.com, offers thousands of course in a wide range of subjects from computer programming to yoga. However, this site isn’t membership based. You pay for individual courses that you can learn at your pace, time, and location.

I’m really looking into perfecting my graphic design skills, since I haven’t used them in awhile and I’ve been into photography backdrop. So, I think I’m going to sign up for SkillShare. Are you thinking about taking some online video courses to work on somethings and further yourself, personally and professionally?

Workspaces for Creatives

workspace_for_creatives_mai

The life of a creative is never cut and dry or simple. A creative’s mind is always churning and pulling ideas from everywhere. Therefore, they need an office and workspace that is not only functional, but influential via design, art, and dedicated space to….create.

Here are some example of amazing examples of workspaces for creatives.

White walls are said to be the best paint options for any creative space. So, this bright, white office area is very ideal. Artist, Kelli Hall’s optic white and minimal desk area is perfect channeling creative ideas.

If bright white is just, too bright, you can always go for a soft shade like this one, which is played up with sturdy white furniture and pops up color via accessories, accent pieces, and mood board.

However, some people thrive on constant inspiration at every turn within their creative space. Inspiration can be found in books on your desk that you’ve read, pictures from magazines that you ripped out, pictures from your last vacation, or even things you’ve already created and intensely proud that came from inside your brain and with your hands.

That’s the great thing about creativity, it can be pulled from any and every where and any and every body.

Here are some necessities that I think workspaces for creatives should have to keep the creative energy churning and flowing:

  • Inspiration Board/Wall – A space, even a small area on your wall, dedicated to harboring pictures and words that influence and motivate you to come up with new and fresh ideas is a must.
  • Natural Light – Light is awesome and natural light is even better, because sun is good for giving you energy to keep moving.
  • Paper and Pen – I love typing and texting, but nothing beats jotting down an instant idea on a piece of paper.
  • Calendar – I’m not good at planning and scheduling posts(I’m getting better, though), but a calendar not helps me do that, but also shows me upcoming holidays and plans that can help me come up when an idea to write about for said event/holiday.

Are there any requirements you need in your workspace to help keep your motivated and inspired to create? If so, share them below.
