Link-End Round-Up: April 15, 2016

link-end round-up

So, I’ve been fasting off of bread, meat, dairy, and sugar for almost 2 weeks, and I’ve learned so much along the way. First of all, I can live without bread, because there are so many other options out there. Secondly, I love meat. That’s the main thing I’ve been craving. No sugar, not breads, but a piece of well seasoned and cooked meat. I’m barely reached the halfway mark, but I can’t want until I can pull up to a table and enjoy a freshly made burger. Yum. I’ll share more on a later post.

Plans for this weekend? Well, I actually have plans. *Gasps* I have a standing date with a group of GFs to go bowling, which I haven’t done in a few years. So, this should be fun and plus a great chance to catch up with each other. I also need to squeeze in some much needed pampering starting with an appointment to get my chin and underarms waxed. The perils of being a woman that’s getting older, but still needs that baby smooth skin. Also, a pedicure is definitely a must-do this weekend, too.

I hop you all have an amazing weekend and please come back Monday to see what make-up item I’ve been obsessing over. It’s actually I product that I used to love when I first began experimenting with make-up in my early 20s. However, I recently rediscovered how perfect it is for my skin type.

LINK-END ROUND-UP: April 8, 2016

Welcome to this week’s Link-End Round-Up.

In case you don’t follow me on social media, which I suggest you do (all handles are stainedcouture, FYI), I finally started my fast this past Monday. I initially planned to start it last Friday, but a nasty sinus infection caused me to push it back a couple of days. I knew I wanted to be highly medicated to fight the sickness and didn’t want the ingredients and side effects to interfere with my fast. Therefore, I took a couple of days to medicate myself up. However, for the majority of the time, I did pretty healthy.

So, here’s a quick rundown on my latest fast. I’m doing the Daniel fast which is based on the biblical story of Daniel who ate a plant-based diet for 21 days to strengthen his relationship to God. So, basically, I’m only eating vegetables, fruits, occasional whole grains such as brown rice and quinoa, and can only drink water. No meats, dairy, sugar, tea, or coffee. I must say, I do miss coffee.

The first couple of days were surprisingly easy, but day 3 was rough and I wanted everything from a chicken fried rice to a greasy cheeseburger. In the end, I’m sticking to my fast and I’m confident I will make it day 21, I’ve already noticed that I feel way better and my skin is glow….ing! My plan for a care-free, make-up free summer is actually coming into view. Still…I still miss coffee.

While I research more vegan and sugar free dessert options to cure my sporadic sweet cravings, please enjoy some reads that I enjoyed this past week. See ya Monday!

LUST-HAVE LIST: April 2016

New month, new Lust-Have List! *sniffles* As I said last week, I kicked off April by battling a cold. I’m still winning, but the battle isn’t quite over. I’m at about 90%. So, I should be back to my usual self by tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

Unlike the past few months, it feels like April took forever to get here. I mean, you couldn’t tell me that St. Patrick’s Day wasn’t 6 weeks ago instead of barely 2 weeks ago. Well, March was pretty jammed pack with holidays, work, and family obligations. So, I guess that could explain it.

However, April is the first full month of spring and I’m so happy. All of the festivals and farmer markets are kicking off soon and I’m so giddy. Therefore, you might notice that the things I’m lusting for this month are aimed at making sure one is spring and summer time cute. Heehee!

LUST-HAVE  LIST: April 2016

  • Deepa Gurnani Denise earrings – The majority of the time, my hair is either is a high top knot or full of my tousled natural curls all over the place. Either way, these large statement earrings will look so amazing. I’m into statement earrings for spring, FYI.
  • Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-Off Treatment – Another thing I’m into for spring is carefree, make-up free days and the best way to achieve that is with clean, fresh skin. This charcoal pore pudding (interesting!) treatment claims to detox your skin and pores. “Detox” gets my money everytime.
  • Bag Lady Tee – I love when dope graphics are displayed on comfy tees. So, this tee from Sue Tsai does it for me.
  • Breville Juice Fountain Plus – My wallet and I recently agreed that we need to invest in a more “grown-up” juicer. The little “beginner juice” I currently have can’t support my high demand for fresh juice and my wallet is sick of spending almost $10 a pop for juice at Whole Foods multiple times a week. This Breville juicer is going to help me put good use to all the veggies I’m planning to buy when the farmer markets open later this month.
  • Rebecca Minkoff Mini Suki Crossbody – I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pastel purple purse and I don’t think that’s fair. Isn’t this lilac bag so pretty?! It’s a crossbody, too! Instant want.
  • Alice & You Embroidered Denim Dress – Last summer, I had to finally get rid of one of my favorite denim pieces I ever owned in the form of denim dress that was the perfect length to wear as dress or a tunic when paired with leggings. This dress is very similar to my former love, except this one is a little fancier thanks to the embroidered design and peasant sleeves. Cute.

LINK-END ROUND-UP: April 1, 2016

Hey, welcome to the first Link-End Round-Up of April 2016!

Just like the first day of a new year, I love the first day of a new month. Even if it falls on the middle or end of the week, it still has a slight refreshing feel to it. Unfortunately, I’m starting this month by fighting off a cold. As usual, when I go to battle with a cold, I eat a lot of fruits and veggies and omit dairy and meat. That usually prevents a cold from settling in my body. I just deal with a sore throat and a little congestion and then I’m good. You should try that the next time you feel yourself getting sick.

Back to my love a the first day of a month. I like to use this moment as a time to take on a personal mini challenge to stick to one thing for the entire month. For March, I committed to creating and sticking to a blogging schedule with designated topics for each day. In case you didn’t notice, I would feature beauty posts on Monday, general lifestyle posts on Tuesday, I send newsletters out on Wednesday (no post), Thursdays were all about fashion/style posts, and Link-End Round-Ups wrapped up the week. I must admit, that this schedule really worked out for me and made it really easy to create and schedule content. So much so, that I’m continue this routine. However, I am considering creating a new series for Wednesdays. It won’t be every Wednesday, but I’m excited about trying to put it together. It’s going to be a little challenging, but I like challenges.

Speaking of challenges, my mini challenge for April is that I’m going to do the 21 day Daniel fast and then follow it up a 10 day fast. I know, another fast. However, occasional fasts have really helped me and my health this year. Plus, it’s a great to use that time to focus on some things that need strengthening in your life. FYI, today is day one!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. If I feel up to it, I plan to attend my first festival of the season. This one is centered around green living. I love festival season!

LINK-END ROUND-UP: March 25, 2016

Yep, the weekend is here, which means it’s time for Link-End Round-Up!

How was everyone’s first week of spring? Was the weather very spring-esque? Spring weather has been a little inconsistent around my parts. A sunny day here, a cloudy day there, and a chilly, rainy day yesterday. All over the place.

For those of you how celebrate and acknowledge Easter, any events or moments you’re planning this weekend? Single girl me is going to church (as usual) and then go home to snack, nap, and lounge on the sofa, as usual..and in no particular order.

It will be a nice break from the slightly stressful week that I’ve had, which included going to court to dispute a speeding ticket (going 35 in 30! – Officer Petty) and UPS loosing my new phone (gold Galaxy s7, FYI) that was on backorder for week. Ugh. Thankfully, my ticket was dismissed and my phone provider sent me another one. So, that was a relief, but I’m still disappointed with UPS.

Anywho, here’s to a peaceful weekend and I’ll be back on Monday to chat again!
