Curating Makeup Stash

Like I mentioned yesterday, I want to start doing weekly decluttering. One area that I’ve grown accustomed to decluttering regularly is my makeup collection. It’s not at big as the one that 20-something me had, but it’s a perfectly curated makeup collection for mid-30s me. FYI, curating makeup and beauty stashes can be hard.

It took me years to get the courage to throw away makeup and beauty products I don’t use. It’s so beneficial to your life by having a curated makeup stash. Keep reading to see some tips to keep in mind the next time you decide to curate your makeup stash.

Curating Makeup Stash: Check Expiration Dates

One of the hardest moments I ever had in life was having to toss a Chanel lipstick. Not only was it the most expensive lipstick I had ever bought at the time, but it was pretty perfect. However,  wasn’t planning on wearing it anytime soon and the lipstick had been expired for almost a year. I know; gross. Even if the product still looks new and has plenty of product left, expired makeup can harbor bacteria that can cause you to breakout. Not cute.

No matter how you spend or love a product, you need to dispose of all expired makeup.

Curating Makeup Stash: What To Keep

Once you get rid of all the expired products, it’s time to decide what to keep. Keep products that you wear at least 2-3x a week. Unless you’re a professional makeup artist, I doubt you’re going to wear that neon green eye shadow that often.

Curating Makeup Stash: Stash Maintenance

Now that you’ve successfully curated your makeup stash, it’s time to maintain it. Easy way to do this is by only buying products you know you’re going to wear. Test out products in store to ensure they’re the right shade. If yo can’t and test it before you buy it, most stores let you bring it back and exchange it. Don’t keep the wrong shade, because it’s a waste of time and space.
