Favorite Beauty Products of 2016

favorite beauty products of 2016

If you’re wondering “Didn’t I already see this post?”, the answer is yes. This post was originally posted last month, but some server issued caused some of my posts to get unpublished and/or deleted. Fortunately, I was able to scrap some of this post off of the server’s ceiling. So, again, I’m sharing my favorite beauty products of 2016.

You might’ve notice that this past year, I’ve bought, tried, and blogged about a lot of makeup and skincare products. I guess that’s part of the whole “beauty blogger” thing. However, I didn’t try all these products to blog about them. Actually, I fell back in love with trying new products and playing in makeup, which is what started me to blog 10 years ago. Playing in makeup has become my hobby again after many years. It’s been so much fun to spend a chill Saturday afternoon working on my blending skills. Also, strolling through Ulta to blow off some steam from a long day at the office has become a highlight to some of my weeks.

Now that I’ve found my love of makeup, I tried a lot of products this year. Like with anything, there were some that loved and some I hated. Therefore, I decided to share my favorite products of 2016, which are all products I would buy again and again.

Favorite Products of 2016: Face

cheek-_coin_purse-colourpop

The blush I wear the most is limited edition blush from MAC Cosmetics’ 2010 Disney Venomous Villians collection called “A Bite of Apple”. This red blush gives my skin the most natural flushed, rosy cheeks. Unfortunately, I recently hit pan on my last one and needed to find another red blush that can give me the same flushed look.

The good news is that I found one in ColorPop’s ‘Coin Purse’ from their Hello Kitty collaboration. Unlike the MAC blush, this is more of a deep rosy pink, but it still gives me flushed look. However, this blush was also from a limited edition collection that is now sold out and I was only able to get one. Thankfully, I don’t have to use much to get my perfect rosy cheek look. So, hopefully, I can make this stretch for a long time like I did my MAC one.

The Ordinary Niacinamides serum

When it comes to my skin care, 2016 was all about skin serums. I really became addicted to skin serums and appreciated all the ways they helped improved my skin. Even though it was tough to choose, The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum. This serum improved the texture of my skin and appearance of blemishes. Plus, this serum is less than $7. I just ordered a couple of more. 🙂 Click here to read more about my love of this skin serum.

Favorite Products of 2016: Brows

benefit-goof-proof-pencil

My eyebrows have been through a lot this year. I feel like I was either growing them out bushy one month and shaping them the next month. However, one product that was able to work for them, no matter their shape, was Benefit’s Goof Proof Brow Pencil. This pencil is designed to help you shape and fill your brows with the same angled pencil on one end with a spool on the other end. Click here to read my full review on this BOMB brow pencil.

Have you ever used a product and instantly didn’t like it and knew you would never use it again. Well, that’s how I felt about Maybelline’s Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara. When I first used this “brow mascara” I was overwhelmed with confusion. From it’s wordy name to it’s ball tipped wand; I couldn’t grasp the concept and reverted back to my clear brow gel. However, when I unexpectedly ran out of my clear brow gel, I reached for this from the back of brow drawer. After figuring out how to use it for my brows, I realized that this was a gem! It sculpts and adds a tint to your brows, which is great for those rushed mornings.

nyx frame and tame

When it comes to brow pomades, I usually have a love/hate relationship, because they’re great for shaping and taming my brows. However, they are usually hard to wash off, which makes them stick to your brows and pull them out. Thankfully, I don’t have that issue with NYX Frame and Tame pomade. This pomade is glides on easy, smudge-proof, and easily wipes away with my oil-based eye make-up remover. Love this!

Favorite Products of 2016: Eyes

In 2016, I wanted to try different brands that I’ve never tried before and It Cosmetics was one of those brands. The Eyelift in a Tube was the first It Cosmetics product I ever tried and it has become one my best purchases of 2016. In 2017, I plan to try more products from this line. Check out my full  Eyelift in A Tube review here.

maxfactor-masgterpiece-mascara

After a leaving the U.S. market for a few years, Max Factor came back and brought with them a new mascara and eyeliner. Although I was instantly in love with liquid eyeliner, I eventually fell in love with the Masterpiece Mascara. This mascara gives my lashes extra length and volume. It’s actually my go-to daily mascara. You can read my full review of the mascara and eyeliner here.
