How I Treat Cystic Pimples

Not one to brag, but my skin has been flourishing over these past few months. I’m not quite sure I can pinpoint what caused me to reach this lifelong goal, but I’m grateful. For the most part, I think the fact that my eating habits have changed more for the good over the past year and I consume crazy amounts of water. Whatever it is, it’s working. Unfortunately, this weekend I had an old friend stop by on my cheek; a cystic pimple. Luckily, it’s not staying around long, thanks to my multiple ways I have to treat cystic pimples.

There are many ways to treat a cystic pimple, but I have 3 go-to thing I use to treat and get them up out of my life.

For the most part, cystic pimples are caused when bacteria get caught in a pore. The bacteria caused the pore area to get enlarged, red, and sore, which is my least favorite characteristic. Before I even divulge my tricks, the first thing you should do or, in this case, never do is pop it. Unlike traditional pimple, cystic pimples are under the skin, which means you can’t pop them. All yo would be doing, is squeezing the area and causing it to be bigger, redder, and more painful. Not to mention, you will be prolonging the treatment process. So, don’t try to pop a cystic pimple.

Since I’m very familiar with acne, I can tell when a cystic pimple is on the horizon. The usual indicator that it’s a cystic pimple is if the area’s red and sore. If it’s in the beginning stages, I usually rub ice on the pimple, which helps to take away the redness and size. If the pain is more unbearable than the look, I would get a warm washcloth and press it against the pimple area for a minute. This helps soothe the area. Afterwards, I would apply a dab of my acne benzoyl peroxide spot treatment and seal it with an equal amount of Aquaphor. With this treatment, the cystic pimple is gone a day or two, if not sooner.

For the most part, I prefer to treat most acne overnight, which includes cystic pimples. I prefer to treat pimples overnight, because it decreases the chance that I pick at it. Plus, I don’t have to worry about covering it up with makeup. The overnight treatment I use is Mario Badescu Buffering lotion, which is amazing. This overnight treatment usually knocks the pimple away by morning. It’s just that magical.
