Coloring Books for Adults

I’ve always been a creative. Growing up, drawing and coloring was my life. I even went to art camp a couple of summers when I was in elementary school. Not to mention, but also earned a handful of awards for my drawings and writing. I don’t know why I stopped coloring and drawing so much. Oh, right, because once you hit junior high/ middle school, drawing and coloring are replaced by technical and computer graphics.

Don’t get me wrong, I love graphic design! Actually, a couple of months ago, I decided to slowly starting up my freelance business again and I’m so excited. However, before I could get to the grind and hustle of graphic design, I had to stir my desire for creating cool and fun designs. Therefore, I reverted back to my favorite childhood pastime; drawing and coloring. Well, I didn’t revert too far back. Instead, I traded in my crayons for gel pens, watercolor markers, and charcoal pencils. Not only is is fun, but there are some great health benefits associated with it, too.

Recently, there was a study released that listed great benefits for adults to color more, including relaxation, exercising fine motor skills and training the brain to focus.

After dusting off my old drawing techniques, I moved on to adjusting to coloring with my new, grown-up art utensils with cheap coloring books from random stores. I will admit that it felt a little more than weird being a childless grown woman shopping for coloring books, but I was so happy. I instantly felt thrown back to looking for certain styles of coloring books. The majority of the coloring books on the shelves are marketed for today’s child. So, there were a lot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and way too many Frozen options. (It’s been over 2 years. Let it go!)

However, a while ago I learned that there were actually adult coloring books. Not “adult” like movies, although I’m pretty sure those exist, but more like adult coloring books that includes cool graphics, illustrations, stress-releasing designs, and fun adult theme. So, cool, right?

So, I’ve decided that I need more of these coloring books for adults in my life (as should you) and I’m starting with these:

Color Me Swoon: Beefcake Edition –  After a long day at the office, I would love to unwind with a glass of wine and color a dreamy picture of Ryan Gosling. Thanks to this Color Me Swoon coloring book, that is actually very plausible. Maybe, after a few glasses of wine, you might get creative and get wonder what a Channing Tatum looks like with a brunette hair or Robert Pattinson with a deep tab. Sexy.

I hope everyone had a great and productive week and plans for an amazing weekend.

I had a lovely work week and look forward to a chilly weekend that involves me going to spend too much money on brand new tires and maybe, going tailgating for the Memphis vs. Ole Miss game Saturday morning. The game starts at 11 and my Tigers are still undefeated. So, needless to say, the tailgating is starting super early, which is right up my alley.

I hope you all have a great weekend, but in the meantime, here is the latest addition of Link-End Round-Up. (FYI – I’m really enjoying sharing these with you all every week!)

Velvet Platform Sandals

They’re baaacckk!

I guess I’m really into velvet since this is second post in less than a week of me fawning over this retro material, but this time I’m talking the rebirth of the retro velvet platform and all the nostalgic feels I’ve been feeling since I noticed these are coming back. Keep reading.

Back in the mid-90s, a pair of velvet platform sandals were the way to go when looking for the perfect shoe to pair with your mini chiffon dress for winter dances and even prom. I had a pair of black (of course), baby pink (I would give up a couple of pinkies to have those back in my life), and navy (gorgeous!)

The great thing about these shoes is that although they are very high and give you all the height that you want, they are actually pretty comfortable thanks to the platform. Plus, the wide heel cuts out potential wobbly walking and more time on the dance floor.

Although 15 year old me was able to strut effortlessly on the gym floor of my high school during school dances in my blue velvet plats, 34 year old lover of flats me is a little apprehensive. However, you only live once. So, I’m down to give these shoes another go. Join me.

When testing out a new trend, it’s always best to go safe and simple, like these black velvet platforms from ASOS. Aside from being classic, they are also super affordable. These burgundy Velvet Platforms by Jil Sander are the perfect Bordeaux color for fall and all the possible festivities in it. Now, if you are feeling trendy and want to jump in head first, you might be in love with these teal velvet platforms from Zara. The color is so gorgeous, plus the inside sole is a contrasting burgundy in velvet, too. Love it.

Are you feeling the return of velvet platform sandals? Me? I’m still on the fence. Still, they are lovely and I really do miss my pink ones.

Shopbop Friends and Family Sale 2015

shopbop-friends-family-fall-2015

For the past few years, I’ve really cut back on my spending with various tactics. One of my favorite things is waiting for big annual sales, which all stores have a couple of times of year. One of the annual sales that I religiously wait for is ShopBop’s Friends and Family sale to save 25%, which started today. Over the course of a few months, I add things to my cart and wishlist to potential buy when the this big sale hits.

Of course, over time, some things sell out in my size or all together and disappear from my cart, which is very sad. I felt that t way last week when the Rihanna x Puma tan creepers sold out. Heartbroken.

However, there are still quite a few items from my wishlist that are still available. Although I would love to get everything on my wishlist, but I have to be realistic and pick up a couple of things.

I want every item related to the new Jem and Halograms that’s coming out. However, I leaning more towards these Synergy replica earrings and this vintage inspired Jem World Tour sweatshirt from Wildfox Couture. Jem was my favorite cartoon growing up

Other than everything Jem, I’m also interested in this velvet backpack from Herschel and this rose gold Nixon watch, among countless others.

The ShopBop Friends and Family Sale begins today and ends at midnight on Thursday, October 15, 2015. So, go now!

Last week went by super fast compared to this week. I feel like I had a 6-day work week and that’s not a good feeling.

Therefore, this weekend, I’m going to be very chill, with the exception of a yoga class tomorrow afternoon. I’m trying to amp up my fitness game, which has been horrible. So, hopefully this beginners foundation class will kick me back into overdrive, because I can no longer blame the humid heat of the summer.

Aside, from yoga, I told myself this that I will finally get my desk area together. Currently, it’s tripling as a makeup vanity, work desk, and night stand…basically, it’s just a catchall and that needs to change ASAP!

As usual, I hope everyone has an amazing weekend and to clean out/organize one area in your life; be it a junk draw, bookshelf, linen closet, or even your car. Whew, my car needs a good ol’ bath in holy water, because it is filthy.

In the meantime, here’s the latest Link-End Round-Up
