A Smooth and Scented Summer

The products in my beauty/skincare arsenal changes every summer, almost. It seems like I’ll find a product that feels like we are going to be summer buddies for YEARS, but only to have a big disagreement (READ:breakout or allergic reaction) or they move away (READ: discontinued).

So, with that being said, here are some products that I’ve been loving in these super hot months. Some are past friends and some are new acquaintances. Anyway…

  • Lady Anti-Monkey Butt Powder, $5.95 – I was recently sent this to review, but it stayed on my makeup desk for about a week before I decided to go ahead and give it ago before I headed out to have a nice walk in the bad heat. Curvy girls know chaffed skin, especially on the thighs in the summer months . Well, this powder is heaven sent with satiny smooth powder that helps prevent chaffed thighs formed from friction on the skin, be it from exercising or just having to be in the heat. This powder feels so smooth and cool, that I practically use it everyday and keep in my gym bag.
  • Dove Go Fresh Deodorant in Cucumber and Green Tea, $3.83 – I LOVE THIS SCENT! First of all, I love Dove products. The soap, body washes, and even some of their hair products. Their deodorants are quite lovely. Not only do they smell amazing, but they also tend to last all day. However, this Cucumber and Green Tea scent is everything to me. The smell is cool, calm, and just screams spring summer to me. Although, I was introduced to this scent via the lotion, I’ve been buying this deodorant every spring summer for the past couple of years. I have a feeling this is going to be a summer staple for me for YEARS.
  • Jergens Natural Glow Healthy Complexion Lotion, $8.49 – A past summer love that I swooned about on Stained Couture before that I’ve recently taken up an interest in again. My legs are super pale thanks to my love of not showing my legs or distaste in showing my legs. Same difference. Ehh. Anyway, I threw this in my big red cart at Target a couple of weeks ago and my mind was instantly reminded as to why I used to love this lotion. Gradually tan and moisturized legs. Love.
  • Aveeno Active Naturals Body Wash Hydrating Fig & Shea Butter, $5.59 – Who knew fig could smell so amazing paired with shea butter? Well, it does, especially in this Aveeno body wash. My sister gave me this body was last week and as soon as I used it, I planned to hunt down the lotion version. Unfortunately, I can’t find a lotion version, but I don’t really need it after using this body wash. It’s super hydrating and leaves my skin soft and smooth.

New Year. New Style. New Want.

Every summer, Nike releases a new collection of women’s sneaker/sandals. For the past couple of  years, they have been releasing their Gladiator sandal with slight changes, but the same cute, comfy, and casual style. I wanted the Gladiator IIs so bad last year, but I wanted them too late and couldn’t find them.

Well, I was wondering did they re-do the Gladiator and had a Gladiator III lurking around out there. So, I decided to check out NikeStore.com. I don’t know if there is a Gladiator III or not, because as soon as I laid eyes on the Artimesia, I was like “Gladiator III, who?”

Yep, I want these soo bad right now! They kind of remind me of the Givency lace-up jellies that came out a couple of years ago.

The Artimesia is available in black and a brownish/grey called Smoke. I want them both. So, ehhh…

Solange Transitions with Carol’s Daughter

Aside for me being known as an artist, fashionista, and little sis to King Bee, she is also known for her head of big hair. People still might remember when she did the big chop and cut off all her hair. I loved it, but could never do it. Instead, I opted to transition in little steps by growing a nice length of new growth before I did the “Big Chop”. That whole time was probably one of the most difficult times for me and my hair.

Transitioning your hair from relaxed to natural was a BIG thing to do 7 years ago when I did it, because there wasn’t that much info and products out there to makes that big moment easier. Well, that’s all about to change for thise of you who have decided to go natural, thanks to Carol’s Daughter.

Carol’s Daughter recently introduced their Relaxed to Natural Hair Solution Kit.

“This easy 3-step kit offers a solution to the 3 problems transitioners face: product build-up, scarred scalp & breakage at the points of demarcation. Now big choppers, long grow-outs and protective stylers can transition from relaxed to natural hair with less shedding, a healthier scalp and softer hair.” according the brand’s website.

Oh, how I wish this was available when I was transitioning, because I dealt with ALL of those issues and had the hardest time dealing with them. Luckily, I was able to tackle them, but not as easy if this kit was around back then.

Check out Carol’s Daughter’s campaign for the Relaxed to Natural Hair Solution kit featuring…oh…Solange. You like how I tied that bow? lol. Anyway, check out the video below.

LUST-HAVE LIST: June 2012

Wow, it’s June. I’m already over graduations, weddings, and baby showers. Although my sister is due July 2nd, I have a feeling that my little booger of a new nephew, Ethan, will make his arrival before June is over and I can’t wait to greet my first nephew! *doing the cabbage patch in my computer chair*

So, although I’m a little late with the list of things I’m lusting for in June, it’s better late than never. Let’s roll that beautiful lust-list now!

  1. Special Edition T-Shirt, $19.90, Zara – It’s t-shirt season and the lighter the better, beit color and/or weight. I’m loving this tee from Zara. Actually, I’m loving everything about this tee, from the casual chicness, the light neon hue, and especially the high/low style that’s everywhere on dresses and skirts.
  2. ROSEGOLD Pana T-Strap Sandal, $158, ShopBop.com – Will there every be a season in which I don’t fawn over a cork shoe? While I wait and ponder the answer to that question, take a look at this wonderful at this cork covered sandal. The great thing about cork shoes is that they can go with so many things, because of their natural and neutral color. Possibilities are endless, my loves!
  3. Ojan Rare Blend Oil Total Hair Therapy, $35, Sephora – My hair routine is 2weeks curly and then one week straight. This has been helping my hair get stronger WHILE keep getting my natural curl pattern back after some unfortunate and unwanted heat damage. However, with curls comes dryness and oils have been my best friend in this routine of mine. I would love to try out this Ojan hair oil. I’ve tried one in the past and it was amazing, because it provided moisture and lovely light scent. It would be nice to have a soft, moistured, and bouncy tresses with a hint of a tropical breeze.
  4. Biennial Handbag, $348, J. Crew – A classic handbag with multiple color options can be hard to come by, but leave it to J. Crew to make that search a little easier with their Biennial bag. The bag is a pebble leather bag with a simple silhouette, but has multiple sleek compartments. It’s work week and weekend friendly!
  5. Sunglasses Case, $75, Rebecca Minkoff – Currently, I have 3 different pair of sunglasses swimming around in my purse all wishing that their owner would buy them a new pouch to protect them from the number of things that could scratch up their shiny exterior. I’m sure they would love to sleep in this case from Rebecca Minkoff. Although Minkoff is more known for her lovely bags, see makes and offers some cute and fun small leather goods, including the this case. Although it’s only available in nude and yellow, I wish and hope she’s planning to introduce some more colors that could work with the bright colors of summer.
