Pantene Gold

Over the summer, I’ve mostly been wearing my hair in it’s natural curly state. In the past, it’s been a struggle for me to embrace my natural curls for this long, but I’m doing it. I’ve been natural for over 10 years now and the culture for curly hair has changed dramatically. For one, big beauty brands have created new lines and collections for natural curly hair. One brand that I think has done a great job embracing the need for products for naturals and curly hair is Pantene. Actually, I think they were one of the first big beauty brands to do it with their Pantene Truly Naturals line. It wasn’t the best products, but it was an effort. However, they have revamped the line with new products and new name; Pantene Gold.

A few weeks ago, while dragging myself to Walgreens for medicine and cough drops, I picked up a few products from the line. Walgreens was having a buy 2 get 1 free deal that I couldn’t pass up. So, I picked up the co-wash, leave-in detangling milk, and the hydrating oil. After trying them for awhile, I think it’s time to share my results and opinions. Keep reading to get my honest opinion of these products from the Pantene Gold collection.

When it comes to curly hair, I’m a firm believer in co-washing, which is using conditioner to cleanse hair. Actually, one of the first co-washes I ever used was Pantene’s Truly Natural Co-Wash. It was good at the time, but it’s basically a heavy conditioner with a different name and packaging. It served it purpose. However, the Pantene Gold Co-Wash is on a whole other level. It’s a deep hydrating co-wash, hence it’s name, and it feels very luxe on my hair.

You apply the co-wash by pumping 2-3 pumps in your hand, massaging in your hair from mid-shaft down to the tips. Afterwards, you gently massage it in your scalp and then use a wide tooth comb to detangle and work it through. Finally, you rinse it out and carry on. After using just the co-wash, my hair instantly felt like I already added a cream or moisturizer. I have to say that I was shockingly impressed.

After rinsing my hair, as most curly hair rockers do, I dried my hair with old t-shirt. Drying your hair with a t-shirt or microfiber towel helps prevent frizz, FYI. Once I was done scrunching my hair with the t-shirt, I massaged in a few pumps of the Intense Hydrating Oil. This oil, which can be used on wet or dry hair, is good if you have dry or brittle hair. Plus, it didn’t weigh my hair down, which was a concern. The oil quickly absorbed into my hair and gave it a soft feel and subtle shine.

Finally, it was time to add a styling a product. I was shocked and little overwhelmed by the different styling products. In hindsight, it’s actually a good thing, because not all curls are the same. So, I’m pretty sure there’s a styling for most curls. For me, I decided to pick the Leave-In Detangling Milk, because my curls prefer milky formulas. Apply 2-3 pumps in your hand then rub it through your hair to the ends and comb it through with a wide tooth comb.

Pantene Gold Series Results:

My curls tend to be a little dry and frizzy. However, this combination of products made my curls feel soft and more manageable. I would and will definitely be trying more products from this line in the future. The next product I would like to try is their Curl Defining Pudding to help define my new soft and moveable curls.

I love taking a chance on new products that end up giving me amazing results.
