You might recall me mentioning that I recently experienced and unexplained breakout. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been introducing my skin to a few new products with new ingredients. So, in order for me to narrow down the cause, I had to stop using everything. When I experience a bad a breakout, I streamline my skincare regimen to basic products, especially cleanser. Hence, the need for a gentle cleanser lead me to a product I hadn’t used since college; Neutrogena Facial Bar.

As you might already know, I’m a huge fan of Neutrogena skincare products, especially their cleansers and moisturizers. So, I always feel comfortable and secure trying their products.

neutrogena facial barIn the case of this facial bar, I first used Neutrogena Facial Bar back in college as a back up to my Clinique facial bar. My skin was super sensitive, acne-prone, and only receptive to gentle cleansers. This facial bar was gentle, soothing, and did a great job at cleaning my face. However, I only used this in the morning back then and used make-up removing products at night. This was before I knew about the benefits of double cleansing my face. Yet, it was a great and served it’s purpose at cleaning my face in the morning.

Now, 15 years later, I decided to try this old friend when me and my freshly broken out skin were walking in the cosmetic aisle at Kroger. As soon as I saw this soap, I recalled the times when this bar of soap gently cleaned and calmed my 21 year-old acne skin. So, I decided to give it a try on my now 35 year-old acne skin.

Luckily, it doesn’t appear that they’ve changed the formula, because it feels the same using it now as it did back then. To help combat my breakout, I used this in the morning to clean my face, but also at night as final cleanser in my double cleansing routine. I really appreciate when products stand the test of time and aging skin.

This post is part of the “Revisiting” series that features products that I’ve recently retried after many years.
