A few weeks ago, my skin and I were going through it bad! I was going through some career drama, which lead to stress and my skin showing the signs. So, I did what I usually do when my skin acts up; go back to the basics. I broke out my simple skincare routine and strayed away from strong ingredients. However, all of my night time moisturizers were too heavy and/or strong to use. Plus, since it’s starting to warm up, I know I didn’t want nor need anything to heavy. Enter, skin essences! Skin essences are low key a must-have for every skincare products collection, no matter your skin type. Plus the right skin essence can bring out the best in other skincare products you use.

Skin essences have become my favorite product to use and I need more. I’ve tried a couple, but have many others I want ASAP! Keep reading to see why I’m a firm believer in an essence for you skin and the ones I personally love.

Wondering what exactly is an essence? Well, they are popular in k-beauty routines, but more people and brands are starting to embrace them outside of a k-beauty routine. They have some of the same benefits as serums, but with the texture of water. You can apply them a cotton balls/pads or just gently rub it on your skin with your hands, which is what I do.

The first essence type product I tried is The Body Shop Drops of Youth Essence Lotion, which I’ve been using for a minute. The magic in this essence is that it’s a liquid gel, but it still feels like water when applying it.

SK-II products are way too rich for my blood and budget. However, when I was able to get a sample size of their Facial Treatment Essence, it was everything I thought it would be. It made my skin look and feel smooth, supple, and glowing without it feeling oily. So, I kinda get why the SK-II essence mini size alone costs $100. Yes, I know, but still…it’s so amazing!

Another essence that everyone is raving about despite the price is Tatcha The Essence Plumping Skin Softener. This essence claims to help with dullnes, dryness, and help with the effectiveness of other skincare products. Does it repair your credit, too?!

I’m almost out of my The Body Shop essence lotion, which means I’m in the market for a new essence. Therefore, I’m going to give Fresh Beauty’s Black Tea Kombucha Antioxidant Essence, which I plan to buy this weekend. Like the other essences, this one helps with moisture and tone, but also dark spots. If you know me, you know I’m always willing to try products to lighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation. So, I’m super excited to try this one.
