I was just browsing around some online stores’ plus size category and noticed that the selection of plus size clothing has gotten bigger and better. If there’s a new trend that my fellow curvy girls want to try, then we can find it!
However, probably one of the worst things to shop for when you are curvy is a coat. Why, you ask? Well, coats not only add warmth, but depending on the style, can also add bulk. I would love to have a puffer style coat, but anything with the “puff” in its title is no bueno.
So, if you have a curvy figure and want to minimize the bulk that a coat can add, might I suggest clean lines with darting or a belt to enhance and/or create a waist. Recommendations? Trench style coats are awesome to every shape; skinny or plus. Plus, the less outside pockets and buttons the better, like the camel coat above.
Printed coats is one trend that I was a little apprehensive about, that is until I broke the code. A printed coat in a big print and is slimmer through the waist, like the center coat above, is perfect!
Also, double-breasted coats can be your enemy, because they make you look wider. Yes, they typically have clean lines, but unless they have a belt to cinch and define your waist, be prepared to look wider than you should ever want. However, if you can’t give up the sophisticated look of a DB coat, then look for a dark and belted one with minimal detail. This will give you the chic and classic look that a double-breasted coat gives without the extra width, like the black coat above.
I hope this helps all of you fellow curvy and non-curvy girls in your coat shopping adventures!
