Taking Care Of Your Glasses

taking care of your glasses

Although I’m in my 30s, I’ve experienced quite a few first this year, including completing fast. However, having to wear glasses for my vision has been the biggest thing on the list.  Considering that intense vision problems run in my family, I’m very happy that I was able to prolong it this long. When it comes to adding new and important things into your life, you have to learn how to take care of them and taking care of your glasses is a very important thing that you need to learn to do.

Since my company doesn’t offer vision insurance, I had to pay for my glasses out of pocket, which was not cheap. I remember as the sales associate was swiping my card, I was envisioning all the fancy beauty products and luxury spa treatments I could be using that money on instead. However, I had to be an adult and cry on the inside as she handed me my new prescribed glasses and sunglasses.

Now, since these were not cheap, I made sure that I was going to make it a priority to take care of my pricey purchase. Taking care of your glasses properly is pretty simple to do and very necessary. So, here are the 3 basic things to remember when taking care of your glasses.

Things to Remember When Taking Care of Your Glasses:

  1. Store Them In A Case – Although I’m all about that lazy girl lifestyle, throwing your glasses in your bag just leaving them laying around is not the business. Instead, keep them in an glasses case. Depending on where you buy them from, most glasses and sunglasses come with their own case. However, you can always buy a case for them and one that’s actually cute.
  2. Clean Them Properly – When you notice a smudge, don’t use your shirt or nearest piece of hanging fabric to wipe them. Most woven fabric can actually scratch your lenses. Instead, rinse with warm water and a drop of gentle dish washing liquid and use a microfiber fabric. Like with cases, most eyeglasses and sunglasses come with a piece of microfiber fabric to use on your lenses. Personally, I keep a few lens cleaning wipes in my purse, desk, and eyeglasses case. It’s quick and convenient,. Plus, they make my lenses crystal clear.
  3. Wear them Properly – When I say properly, I mean don’t have them on top your hair for too long, because that can stretch them out and make them too loose for your face. Also, if you need them to work out in, buy a eyeglasses strap to keep them secure to your face. While you are on your last lap on the treadmill, you don’t want your sweat to help your glasses slide off your face and right underneath your feet. Not good.
