Velvet Platform Sandals

They’re baaacckk!

I guess I’m really into velvet since this is second post in less than a week of me fawning over this retro material, but this time I’m talking the rebirth of the retro velvet platform and all the nostalgic feels I’ve been feeling since I noticed these are coming back. Keep reading.

Back in the mid-90s, a pair of velvet platform sandals were the way to go when looking for the perfect shoe to pair with your mini chiffon dress for winter dances and even prom. I had a pair of black (of course), baby pink (I would give up a couple of pinkies to have those back in my life), and navy (gorgeous!)

The great thing about these shoes is that although they are very high and give you all the height that you want, they are actually pretty comfortable thanks to the platform. Plus, the wide heel cuts out potential wobbly walking and more time on the dance floor.

Although 15 year old me was able to strut effortlessly on the gym floor of my high school during school dances in my blue velvet plats, 34 year old lover of flats me is a little apprehensive. However, you only live once. So, I’m down to give these shoes another go. Join me.

When testing out a new trend, it’s always best to go safe and simple, like these black velvet platforms from ASOS. Aside from being classic, they are also super affordable. These burgundy Velvet Platforms by Jil Sander are the perfect Bordeaux color for fall and all the possible festivities in it. Now, if you are feeling trendy and want to jump in head first, you might be in love with these teal velvet platforms from Zara. The color is so gorgeous, plus the inside sole is a contrasting burgundy in velvet, too. Love it.

Are you feeling the return of velvet platform sandals? Me? I’m still on the fence. Still, they are lovely and I really do miss my pink ones.
