REVIEW: RED by Kiss 1 1/2 in. curling iron

6 February 2010 No Comment

I was so glad to finally get  a new big curling iron. I’ve been needing a new one for more than a minute and I’ve been wanting to try Red by Kiss hair tools since I use to love their fake nails when I was a teen. So, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and bought their 1 1/2″ curling iron.

Read more of the review and pictures after the jump.

After I finished washing, conditioning, moisturizing, and air drying my hair, I was so excited to try out my new curling iron, which I just bought this past Wednesday. Red by Kiss boasts that the it has some “new technology” that allows it to heat up in 60 seconds. I didn’t time it, but it did seem to heat up almost instantly, which is plus for those rare mornings I run late.  However, the manual that comes with the curling iron recommends that you let it heat up 1-2 minutes to get the full effect, which I happen to agree with.

When I first started curling my hair, I noticed that the iron didn’t really grip my hair the way I was use to my other curling iron doing,  but I just chopped that to my hair being clean and not having that much product in it to create a stronger texture and plus the curling iron being brand spanking new. So, I didn’t dwell on it and continued on.

I was almost done with my hair and I was very pleased with the distribution of  the heat and control of the handle. All I had left to do was the front of my hair, which is usually the easiest part of the press and curl portion of my weekly routine. However, I noticed that the curling iron was feeling a little heavier, because the once 8 ft, cord had literally tangled up to almost a ball of 1-2 ft of  cord. It was so tangled, that every time I tried to curl my hair, the curling iron would unplug. Not a good thing. Actually, it was very frustrating!

It was so annoying that I almost unplugged the iron and pulled out my other curling iron, but since I was  almost done I just finished up, but having to unravel the cord after I finished each section pissed me off to the point that as soon as I finished my hair I sent the company an email to express my disappointment. Well, I tried to send the email, but the email kept bouncing back. Hmm.

In the end, I loved the heat control, size and lightness of the barrel. However, the tangled cord just frustrated me enough to look over everything else.

If you are looking for a  curling that heats descent and don’t mind untangling the cord after curling each section, then maybe you wouldn’t mind this RED by Kiss curling iron. However, if you are like me and don’t have time to deal with an annoying cord and could easily find a curling iron that heats well, and probably better, without having to deal with the hassle of something as simple as a cord, then maybe you should do what I plan to do- keep looking.

I give this 2.5 out of 5 curls!
