LUST-HAVE LIST: January 2014

LHL_jan2014

Yeah, I’m a little late with this month’s LHL due to trying to come get back to normal following the holidays and going mortal kombat style fighting off colds and/or the flu. Also, I’ve been a little busy doing some behind the scene working trying to code a new visual presentation (a.k.a new design) for Stained Couture. Remember, coding can suck your life away.

Back to business and this month’s Lust Have List. For the past couple of months, I’ve felt very motivated to becoming a better me and sometimes that means simplifying other areas in your life to improve others. Blah, blah, and some more blah. Anyway, here is the small, but needed list of things I’m lusting for this month. Cheers!

  • Charlotte Olympia ‘Libra’ Flats, $695, Nordstrom – Anyone who knows me know that I love anything that has to doing with my zodiac sign of Libra. Yeah, I’m  proud a Libra and so I was beyond stoke to see these adorable zodiac flats from Charlotte Olympia. I guess I’m starting to catch feelings for her shoes, huh? I love the soft pistachio hue with the glitzy of the Libra scales embroidery on the toes. Plus, the gold detail on the heel is a very nice touch. What I’m not to stoked about? That price! Sheesh.
  • Chiffon Dress, $34.95, H&M – I know it’s hard to see due the crapload of winter weather we’ve been experiencing, even here in Memphis, but Spring is right around the corner. So, it’s almost time to start thinking about spring wardrobes. Better yet, transitioning to spring wardrobes. A taupe chiffon dress seems like a easy way. The color and material is soft enough for the warm breeze of Spring, but can easily be cold weather friendly when paired with some tights, boots, and an oversized boyfriend sweater. Tah-dah!
  • The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, $13.72, Amazon.com – This is a classic book that was first published in 1990, but still has feet over 20 years later. Since I’m trying to be a more effective person, this seems right up my alley. FYI: My reading list has been on point lately!
  • Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, $24, Origins – I’m a HUGE fan of charcoal masks, because I have a problem with large pores and these masks seem to do the trick. I tried this mask back in college and I remember it being amazing. Unfortunately, mostly broke college students don’t have the luxury to splurge every other month on charcoal masks. However, occasionally broke career  women, such as myself can type this on their to-buy list in their overpriced, but much-needed smartphones while waiting for their equally overpriced and delicious coffee at Starbucks. Yeah, I’m buying this after work. I feel like I miss it and want to see if the magic is still there.
  • Vintage Tan Alba Hobo bag, $160, TopShop – Big. Vintage. Tan. Perfect!

LUST-HAVE LIST: December 2013

LHL_dec2013

Wow. Can you believe that 2013 is almost over? Well, I can’t and I’ve barely chipped at my Christmas shopping list. Eh, but I digress back to the things I’m lusting for this very cold month of December. Although it’s winter, the list of things I want look very fall friendly. too.

  • Coat with Lapels and Belt, $299, Zara – This  coat looks so classic with it’s lapels and belted waist. The camel color with pink undertones will allow you to wear and carry this coat for years. Plus, I’m really into long coats this season.
  • Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, $52, Sephora – Sephora has really found their niche’ in the makeup world with their Naked Palettes. This is the third one that they’ve releases and sold out instantly on their website, just like the previous ones. This one features more rose hued neutrals. I love my original Naked palette and rose-hued eyeshadow sounds great.
  • Tory Burch Robinson Smartphone Wristlet, $155, ShopBop.com – I’m starting to not carry my purse so much and instead just grabbing my phone and my wallet or even just my ID and debit card. So, this wristlet is perfect as it is designed specifically for smartphones, but also has some slot to carry cash and a few important cards. Right up my alley.
  • Pink Glitter Chain Necklace, $29, TopShop – I’ve been loving the current trend of sprucing up simple sweatshirts with pretty statement necklaces. This one would look so chic and cute pair with even a simple grey sweatshirt.
  • Joie Dalton Booties, $325, Piperlime.com – Umm, can you have too many neutral booties? I don’t think so.

WEEKEND AT HOME: Holiday Greeting Cards

WAH_christmas_cards_2013

Probably one of my guiltiest pleasures in life is receiving greeting cards in the mail. Birthday, Valentine’s Day, and definitely Christmas. I use to send them out every year, even when I was still living at home in college. However, the past couple of years, it has slipped my mind, but that is changing this year.

I’m planning to send out some Christmas cards this year with my chihuahua, Pepe’, as the handsome cover model, but I’m not completely sold on an idea, yet.

Thanks to technology, there are plenty of online sites that allow you to upload your picture and/or design and send it to you within a few days. The two sites that I love for customized cards and printed needs, including greeting cards, are Canva.comMinted.com and Tinyprints.com. They have a nice large selection of templates that allow you tweak them in various ways, including colors, text, and formatting.

So, this weekend I will buckle down and come up with a design and selection so I can get them in time to send out. Wish me luck!

WEEKEND AT HOME: Wreath Wrangling

WAH_christmas_wreath2013

YES! Thanksgiving is over and now it’s officially time to deck the halls with all the Christmas music and decorations you can personally tolerate.

Last weekend, my sister and I put up our tree and started decorating it. We haven’t added the final touches of personal ornaments, garland, and candy canes, though. This weekend, we plan to finish up decorating the tree and also start on decorating the outside. Although my sister loves Christmas time, I don’t think we are ready to get super festive with outside decorations. We might just string some light on the deck and hang a wreath.

Wreaths. Aren’t they great and versatile. No matter the season or holiday, there’s a wreath for that. A couple of weeks ago when I was looking and pondering about the type I was pretty set on get a big, lush green traditional wreath with a big red bow in tact. Now….I’m leaning toward a more statement wreath.

I love the red wreath made out of curled wood, plus, thanks to the deep red, it could work in the fall and Valentine’s Day, too. The bright and colorful ornament wreath has all the same colors and textures as the ornaments on my tree. However, the one I’m fixated on is the bell wreath from Williams-Sonoma. Yep, I think this is the one. Sleigh bells!

WEEKEND AT HOME: Investing In Myself and Future

WAH_investinme_books

This might be the last weekend of the year that doesn’t involve me having to run around shopping for Christmas gifts, holiday parties, and other holiday related situations.

Although the year is not over, yet, I have already decided what’s the main thing I want to focus on next year; ME! I have spent the last couple of years trying to be a “good” person by helping others out when they needed it hoping/expecting that it will come back to me. It was a gamble in faith that I still will do. However, I’ve learned the hard way that I also need to try and be there for me, too. It’s not being selfish, but being smart.

One thing that I’ve been putting on the back burner for too long is creating a little side business that I’ve been itching to do, but kept telling myself that I don’t have time or the right “things” in place. However, that was just a scapegoat that the “reasonable and responsible inner me” used to defer my dreams.

That is all changing, because I’m in go mode, but, as usual, “reasonable and responsible inner me” has to do the research and set up to-do lists and what better way than to read and listen to other driven women, which is what I’m doing this weekend.

The first book up is one that has been on my nightstand for over a year, where it has collected dust, drink rings, and make-up smears. By Invitation Only: How We Built Gilt and Changed the Way Millions Shop is by the business savvy women behind online sample sale site, Gilt.com. So far, it’s a really good and motivational read. It has really put that bug in me that I should take the chance now.

After I finish the Gilt book, I plan to read Barbara Corcoran’s Shark Tales: How I Turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business and Barbara Stanny Secrets of Six-Figure Women. The latter is not just for me to getting a better understanding of a business, but more so about my current career ambitions.

For those of you not in the loop about me away from this blog don’t know much about me. Well, I have a B.A in Internet Journalism from the University of Memphis and I’m current a content developer for a medical software company, where I also participate in the online marketing for the company. However, I’ve been feeling the itch to focus more on online marketing and less on technical and development of content. So, I’m gearing to spread my wings and figure out exactly what road to take to get where I want and need to be. So, hopefully, I will get a better understanding about my ambitions soon.

Anyway, that’s what I plan to do this weekend…prepare myself for greatness!
