BEAUTY BUYS: February 2015

recent_beauty_buys_feb2015_

I haven’t really been that interested in shopping, especially makeup and beauty products until recently. I purged so much unnecessary makeup and beauty products last week. So, I’ve only bought a few necessary products that I love and are staples. However, I couldn’t help but buy a couple of new items, that I’m not regretting.

  • Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Edge Control Smoother – It’s hard to find a edge tamer that’s not heavy, greasy, and/or leave a white residue. Well, controller from Carol’s Daughter is amazing. It slicks back and shines my edges. Plus, it glides on easily and is not heavy at all. Cherry on top? Lovely scent
  • Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser for Dark Circles – I’ve looked high and low and I’ve yet to find an undereye concealer that compares this one from Maybelline’s Age Rewind line. Rolls on smooth, sets flawlessl, and little to no increasing that covers instantly brightens my undereye area.
  • Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray – I’ll always love 2fers and I use this spray as a primer and setting spray. I spray it on my skin after moisturizing my skin, before applying my makeup and I also use it to set my makeup. It works awesomely.
  • Benefit Hoola Bronzer – If you are looking for a classic bronzer that works on various complexions, this cult favorite bronzer from Benefit is the one for you.
  • Real Technique Blush Brush – I’ve been obsessed with blush brushes and this is super soft and applies blush effortlessly and blends perfectly. If you haven’t checked out the Real Technique brushes, you should. Thank me later.

RECENT EMPTIES: January 2015

I never thought I would get to the point in life where I would be borderline ecstatic to run out of a beauty product, especially makeup. Well, I’m there and I always feel a little proud when I can replace an item or go and buy a new item to try.

Recently, I decided to start investing in high quality makeup from classic and higher end brands, especially for face products (i.e. foundation, powders, skincare). So, I’ve been trying to use up as many drugstore products in my makeup collection as possible, especially those products that I really didn’t fancy. So, you will notice that the majority of the products I proudly used up can be found at your favorite local drugstore.

  • Luster’s Renutrients Revita-Shine Polish – I bought this products years ago at a women’s showcase and I was never a fan of it after the day I bought it. So, a couple of months ago I decided that I would used this up and I did, because this product was no longer friendly with my hair and didn’t really add much of a shrine.
  • Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion – I bought this a couple of months ago on a whim and I was pretty pleased with this toner and results and will purchase it again.
  • Rimmel Just Let Go Eye Makeup Remover – This eye remover was another whim that I bought, because I ran out of eye makeup remover  and this one was on clearance, The fact that it was clearance should have been the tell-tale sign. This remover claimed to be gentle. Well, there idea of gentle is the opposite of mine, because the remover used to sting my eyes. I was actually happy to use this up.

FAVORITE CONCEALERS: High Coverage with a Low Price

I’m so happy to say that my skin has finally cleared up thanks to my current clean and simple regimen. Now that I’ve conquered that, now I’m working on my dark spots and hyper-pigmentation on my cheek area. So, I’ve been using concealer to deal with those trouble areas to cut back on heavy coverage foundation all over my skin.

There are some really awesome full coverage concealers out there and you can find some of them for less than $10 at your local drugstore. So, here are three of the best high coverage concealers with a low price.

  • NYX HD Concealer Wand – If you are looking for a concealer that’s buildable from medium to full coverage and available in multiple colors, including color correction shades, then this is the concealer you should look into purchasing.
  • Hard Candy Glamoflauge – This is the current high coverage concealer I’m using and it blends easily and is buildable. Plus it comes with a matching concealer pencil for small spot concealing. Only drawback to this concealer is that there are only 3 shades available and the darkest is a light tan.
  • L.A Girl Pro Conceal HD – Now, if you need a full and heavy coverage, but in a darker shade, then this concealer for you. It is also really great for dark circles and it’s available multiple shades.

MORNING MINUTE: Korres Greek Yoghurt Primer

KORRES_yoghurt_primer

One of the reason I love ordering from Sephora is because you can choose to sample certain products or get deluxe samples with your reward points. On my recent purchase, I used some of my points to get a deluxe sample of Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer, because I’m always on the hunt for a good primer.

I obviously wasn’t thinking when I picked this primer, because this primer is great for giving your skin a dewy look…which is NOT what I was looking for in a primer at this time. The next time I’m looking to find some products to help give me a dewy look, I’ll know what to get.

However, if you’re looking for a dewy look, here you go!

Clinique Clique 4 Life

5_fav_clinique_products

My freshman year of college is when I first really got into buying makeup and the first brand I knew about and spent money on was Clinique.

Around this time, my mom was pretty much done with wearing makeup other than a cheap and tacky Wet n Wild pink lipstick she would only wear to special occasions and church. NOTE: she didn’t even have a “go-to” color, just any fuschia pink that was cheap.

However, back in her heydays of makeup a.k.a my childhood, the one brand that I remember her buying consistently was Clinique. Those marble seafoam green compacts that were always laying on her dresser and bathroom counter stuck with me over the years. So, if it was good enough for my momma, it must’ve been a keeper.

In the past 15+ years, I’ve bought and used countless products from Clinique. I will admit, that there were a few busts, but way more winners and lifelong favorites. so much so, that if I had to only buy beauty products from one brand for the rest of my life, including skincare it would hands down be from Clinique. More of their products work better with my skin than any other brand.

So, after some deep thinking and backtracking, I’ve accumulated my favorite Clinique products that I’ve ever used…and will forever love.

  • Almost Lipstick in ‘Black Honey’ – Listen. I’m actually getting sick of praising this lipstick, but it will always be my favorite shade and formula for lipstick. Sheer, glossy, and perfect. Just go buy and hoard a few already!
  • Facial Soap – Before there was Proactiv and every other “3 Step” skin care regimen, there was Clinique’s 3 Step System and this is soap is Step 1 and it’s gentle and simple.
  • Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel – The soap was Step 1 and this moisturizer is Step 3 and is my favorite moisturizer ever, especially this gel formula for my oily/combo skin.
  • Blended Face Powder and Brush in Transparency Bronze – Its hard to find a matte powder bronzer, well before you try this one, because this one is amazing. It’s buildable, plus this powder is available in other shades that aren’t bronzers. This powder is lightweight and sets like a dream. Plus, it comes with a retractable brush that’s awesome on its own, because it can hold a single application of powder that you can use later.
  • Superpowder Double Face Makeup – I completely forgot about this powder. It’s a foundation and powder in one compact that provides full coverage. Not only can it be used as a powder foundation, but also as a setting powder for extra coverage. It’s great anyone who just wants and needs one go-to powder.

I will admit that I haven’t tried anything new from Clinique in a while and I saw quite a few new products on their website that I’m itching to try.
