Double Cleansing Products and Duos

Isn’t it crazy how you can go years, maybe even decades, doing something one way only to find out you were doing it all wrong or not completely?

Well, that’s how I felt awhile back when I realized that I spent countless years complaining about my acne prone skin and having trouble finding a cleansing product and routine that actually worked when in all I was short-handing the process by only using one product to cleanse my face. All this time, I should have been using two face washing products instead the bare basics of one.

Now, I’m a firm believer in the double-cleansing movement.

What is “Double Cleansing”?

Simply put, it’s using 2 different facial cleansing products to clean your face. One of the popular and usual ways that some people do this is by using a make-up remover wipe to remove the first layer of make-up and then “washing” their face  with a regular “sudsy” face wash. That might be just enough for some, but the majority of us need to give our face more attention that when cleaning it or it will bite back with clogged pores and dull complexions.

There are countless of cleansing combos you can use to thoroughly wash your face and I’m sharing some note-worthy combos based on skincare needs. Keep reading to see if you can spot a combo for you.

No Makeup/ Morning Routine

You might think that double cleansing your skin isn’t necessary if you didn’t make-up or the first thing in the morning, but you might want to think again. Even though your face doesn’t have layers of make-up, a lot of dirt and germs can get on your skin and in your pores throughout the day and while you sleep. So, a gentle 1-2 combo of a Simple Cleansing Micellular water followed by Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser and a rinse of water would give your skin a gentle clean. Both of these products are super gentle and great for any and all skin types.

Light/ Natural Makeup

The look of natural makeup can easily be pulled off with light foundation, a little mascara, and simple lipstick or gloss. Therefore, a combination of a make-up wipe remover and oil-free face wash might be the way the go to thoroughly remove this make-up and clean you skin. Using Nuetrogena Make-Up Remover Wipes to remove your make-up is a great first step and follow it up with a cleanser like Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Milk, which is gentle and milky face wash take easily dissolves any leftover make-up, dirty, and even sunscreen.

Heavy/ Night Out Makeup

For those make-up addicts who love nothing more than a heavy smoky eyes, perfectly contoured skin, and no-budge liquid lipsticks, then a few make-up wipe and a gentle cleanser might not be the most effective way to remove your make-up and cleanse your face. A cleansing oil and foaming face wash is more ideal. Dermalogica Precleanse is one of the magical products ever. It gently deep cleanses your skin and the oil breaks down to remove skin impurities, sunscreen, and even waterproof makeup. Love a good glitter eyeshadow, this cleansing oil will dissolve and melt it off your face. After using your cleansing oil, follow it up with a foaming face wash such as Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash. It’s great for dry and oily skin and doesn’t leave any residue.

Bi-Weekly Deep Cleanse

All proper skin care routines call for weekly deep cleansing that includes exfoliating it. There are countless of skin brushes that are great for deep cleaning your skin, including LUNA silicon facial brushes. There are LUNA facial brushes for all skin types, including for sensitive and combination skin. Use your facial brush with a deep cleanser, such as Juice Beauty Stem Cellular 2 -in-1 Cleanser. Not only does this product deep cleanse, but it also helps tone and hydrate your skin.

Do you double cleanse on a regular? If so, feel free to share your favorite combo below, because I love trying new skincare products.

Inexpensive Winter Skincare Routine

winter-skincare-regimen

I love when Fall hits and the temperature starts getting cooler. Not only does it mean that I can start breaking out all my boots and live layering, but it also means that I can cut back on my skincare and follow my trusty and very affordable winter skincare routine.

What I mean by “cut back” is that I can stop using certain products that my combo/oily skin needs in the humid heat, but so much in the cooler days of fall and winter.

The most basic skincare needs three core steps: cleanse, tone, and moisturize. It took me a few years, but I eventually found a simple and very basic skincare routine for normal skin.

Cleanse – In the colder months, I don’t really have to worry about finding products for oily skin, because my skin is more on the normal side. So, I take a break from my cetaphil and use a regular bar of Dove soap. Yes, you can use bar soap on your despite what commercials and old wives tales have told you, but it has to be the right kind of soap. If you have normal to dry skin, stay away from ‘antibacterial’ soaps, because they are very drying. However, Dove soap is great, because not only is it gentle for most skin types but also very moisturizing. Any extra touch of moisture for your skin in the winter is great.

Tone – I always keep a bottle of witch hazel in my skincare stash for those days when I run out of my trusted toner which I preferred product in the summer, this is always the next best option. However, in the winter, when my skin is normal and doesn’t need the extra oomph of my summer toner, I reach for my Dickinson’s witch hazel. It gently wipes away any remaining dirt and make-up that didn’t get removed in the cleansing step and also helps calm and balance my skin without over-drying it.

Moisturize – Coconut oil is seriously my BFF, because it always my back. I buy a large ja of coconut oil and ration it off in various size containers to put in various sots around of my house. I keep a medium size container in my bathroom cabinet to as a deep moisturizing mask for my hair, I keep a small jar in my purse for random moments of dryness on the go, and I keep a small jar on vanity to use as a moisturizer for my skin. Plus, a little goes a long way.

This is my go-to easy, inexpensive, and simple skincare routine that I can actually use all year that consists of products that I buy almost anywhere and anytime (thanks to 24 hour Wal-Mart) Feel free to list some simple and inexpensive skincare products for winter below.

Smooth and Supple Summer Skin

rocking-my-summer-skin

My skin and I hit a major rough patch earlier this summer. I’m talking rough as in bumpy, large pores, and super oily and that was just my face. My legs and arms just couldn’t get along with any product to make them smooth and soft.

So, I did what everyone should do when this happens; STOP everything! I stopped using the face wash that I had only been using for a couple of weeks that just wasn’t living up to it’s $55 price tag. I stopped using this moisturizer that I had only tested for a few days before realizing that it was just too heavy for my sweaty summer skin. Speaking of heavy…I definitely had to stop using this full coverage foundation that I initially loved, but like the moisturizer, it was just too heavy for my skin in this humid climate of the south.

After going makeup free for over a week and using only Cetaphil and my favorite Mario Badescu toner to cleanse my face, I purged all the gookiness out of my face and proceeded to start a new path to smoother, supple, and clear skin and here are the products that have made my skin (not just face) so much happier in the final lap of summer 2015.

  • Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel in Lavender – When I first discovered that oil gel was a thing and the fact that it’s a great alternative to baby oil for us people with oily skin…I was all in! This Johnson’s formula is available in all of Johnson’s classic scents, but the lavender one, by far, is my favorite. It’s a very light and calming scent that’s perfect for hot summer days. FYI – baby oil is a great sealer for your favorite perfume or body spray. Apply a little oil on the spots you spray your perfume and follow up by spraying your favorite perfume and it will increase the longevity of your perfume. The More You Know *insert shooting star*
  • Mario Badescu Super Collagen Mask – Yes, another Mario Badescu product. Hey, what can I say, my skin in my 30s has really adapted to this line and products. I use this mask 2-3x a week and since I’ve been doing this, my skin has gotten so much supple, soft, and clearer. My pores have minimized extremely and my skin is brighter and dare I say..is glowing. Well, it is! FYI 2 – I also used this, on a whim, for my chest. Supple skin…and boobs? Yes, the results were just as amazing!
  • Bliss Fabulous Makeup Melt – Another gel to oil product. I think this has turned into something serious. This makeup remover and cleanser squeezes out of the tube in gel form and you rub it over dry skin and the the gel gentle transform into a oil and rubs away all of your makeup and other impurties. Once everything has been loosen, just rinse with water. I love it!

Although I’ve been using these products to help me achieve swoon-worthy summer skin, these products can and will be used all year.

The LUXURY Products You Need NOW

luxury_beauty_items

Like I’ve mentioned previously, I’m back into buying and trying new beauty and skincare products. However, I also love spoiling myself and my beauty and skin regimen is the usual the beneficiary of these moods of indulgence. So, I’ve gathered a nice list of luxury products you need that are worthy of use to spoil yourself.

  • Sunday Riley Sleeping Night Oil – I’ve heard so many awesome things about this nightime oil. A lot of people have even claimed to see results over night, which is nice to know considering the $100+ price tag. This oil is packed with skin loving ingredients, including retinol.
  • YSL Volupte Tint-In-Oil – I tried this lip tint and was instantly in love. It lasts for a really long time, high pigmentation for a lip tint, and it’s very moisturizing, which is also very much appreciated.
  • MUFE Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer – Now that the warm weather is here and not going anywhere for awhile, primer is your friend and Make Up Forever  primers are your BFF. They have a mattifying one that is beyond amazing and this smoothing formula is just as amazing and perfect for a flawless face.
  • R+Co DEATH VALLEY Dry Shampoo – Can you every have too many dry shampoos? Well, the answer is probably ‘yes’, but never hurts to have options. However, this dry shampoo is hands down, the most refreshing and volumizing dry shampoo I’ve ever used with a hefty price tag to boot, but a little goes a long way. A couple of puffs is all it takes to make your hair look and feel fresh.
