WEEKEND AT HOME: Wreath Wrangling

WAH_christmas_wreath2013

YES! Thanksgiving is over and now it’s officially time to deck the halls with all the Christmas music and decorations you can personally tolerate.

Last weekend, my sister and I put up our tree and started decorating it. We haven’t added the final touches of personal ornaments, garland, and candy canes, though. This weekend, we plan to finish up decorating the tree and also start on decorating the outside. Although my sister loves Christmas time, I don’t think we are ready to get super festive with outside decorations. We might just string some light on the deck and hang a wreath.

Wreaths. Aren’t they great and versatile. No matter the season or holiday, there’s a wreath for that. A couple of weeks ago when I was looking and pondering about the type I was pretty set on get a big, lush green traditional wreath with a big red bow in tact. Now….I’m leaning toward a more statement wreath.

I love the red wreath made out of curled wood, plus, thanks to the deep red, it could work in the fall and Valentine’s Day, too. The bright and colorful ornament wreath has all the same colors and textures as the ornaments on my tree. However, the one I’m fixated on is the bell wreath from Williams-Sonoma. Yep, I think this is the one. Sleigh bells!

Black Friday Tradition Accomplished

pBBW1-16864221enh-z8

I hope everyone has a happy and SAFE black friday. Believe me, there is no deal worth catching a case over. Plus, will it truly be a deal if you add in the amount of your bail? Nope.

Personally, I haven’t participated in Black Friday in a couple of years, partly because of work and/or finances don’t align up. However, I  was able to do a little shopping here from my desk for my mom and sisters, so yay.

Speaking of sisters, my youngest sister birthday was this past Tuesday, which means her birthday ALWAYS falls around and sometimes on Thanksgiving or Black Friday. So, her gifts are usually in hindsight for a good deal and luckily she doesn’t mind.

However, a few years ago, I decided to drag her along on my Black Friday adventure to the mall. It was great! I got me a new pair of knit Uggs that need to be replaced ASAP and she got herself  a new tradition; me getting her Bath and Body Works’ annual V.I.P bag. If you didn’t know, every Black Friday, B&BW has a V.I.P bag that’s filled with over $100 worth of merchandise for only $20 with any purchase over $40, which I usual spend on candles.

So, at midnight, I waddled out of my house to my local mall, grabbed the bag, $40 in 3-wick candles, and a free gift and made it back home in less than 30 minutes, which I’m still shocked over.

I will say that I’m a little disappointed with the bag this year. First off, the bag used to be brimming with full-size items and this year there were only 7 items with 2 of them sample size. Lastly, the bag. Ugh. I always applauded the choice of bags, because they are always either black or grey and free of any Bath and Body Work logos. It actually looks like a bag that you bought at any retail store and you can carry it all year. This year’s bag looks little cheap with flat metal studs, PLUS it has this gift bow sewed on it, which makes it look very seasonal.

I’m just hoping that this is not a look at V.I.P bags to come from Bath & Body Works. I mean, they didn’t even include a pocket anti-bacterial sanitizer and little container like they usually do. Well, as long as my sister is happy about it, then I guess that’s all that matters.

WEEKEND AT HOME: Investing In Myself and Future

WAH_investinme_books

This might be the last weekend of the year that doesn’t involve me having to run around shopping for Christmas gifts, holiday parties, and other holiday related situations.

Although the year is not over, yet, I have already decided what’s the main thing I want to focus on next year; ME! I have spent the last couple of years trying to be a “good” person by helping others out when they needed it hoping/expecting that it will come back to me. It was a gamble in faith that I still will do. However, I’ve learned the hard way that I also need to try and be there for me, too. It’s not being selfish, but being smart.

One thing that I’ve been putting on the back burner for too long is creating a little side business that I’ve been itching to do, but kept telling myself that I don’t have time or the right “things” in place. However, that was just a scapegoat that the “reasonable and responsible inner me” used to defer my dreams.

That is all changing, because I’m in go mode, but, as usual, “reasonable and responsible inner me” has to do the research and set up to-do lists and what better way than to read and listen to other driven women, which is what I’m doing this weekend.

The first book up is one that has been on my nightstand for over a year, where it has collected dust, drink rings, and make-up smears. By Invitation Only: How We Built Gilt and Changed the Way Millions Shop is by the business savvy women behind online sample sale site, Gilt.com. So far, it’s a really good and motivational read. It has really put that bug in me that I should take the chance now.

After I finish the Gilt book, I plan to read Barbara Corcoran’s Shark Tales: How I Turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business and Barbara Stanny Secrets of Six-Figure Women. The latter is not just for me to getting a better understanding of a business, but more so about my current career ambitions.

For those of you not in the loop about me away from this blog don’t know much about me. Well, I have a B.A in Internet Journalism from the University of Memphis and I’m current a content developer for a medical software company, where I also participate in the online marketing for the company. However, I’ve been feeling the itch to focus more on online marketing and less on technical and development of content. So, I’m gearing to spread my wings and figure out exactly what road to take to get where I want and need to be. So, hopefully, I will get a better understanding about my ambitions soon.

Anyway, that’s what I plan to do this weekend…prepare myself for greatness!

Never Forget. Always Want.

It’s pretty safe to say that Isabel Marant Bekett leather hidden wedge sneaker has become one of the most iconic fashion pieces in the last 10 years. it sounds absurd to declare this on a wedged sneaker, but it’s true. For the past couple of years, the classic black Bekett comes in stock and then sells out pertty instantly. I think that’s in part due to the number of pairs that are made each season.

So, Net-A-Porter has the classic black pair back in stock. So, if you got the means, go grab a pair while you can.
