Dress On

social occasion dresses

We are in the midst of dress shopping season. Oh, you didn’t know or even realize there was such a thing as dress shopping season? Well, technically, there isn’t, but if there was a time of year when there was an increase in shopping for dresses, then this would be the time of year.

Personally, I’m looking for some casual dresses to prep me for spring. Whereas, I know that a lot of young ladies (including my little neighbor, Kiki) are looking for after dark dresses and bodycon dresses for upcoming social and formal events such as spring dances and of course, prom! By the way, when did prom dresses go from the one night of the year to look and feel like a princess to looking like you were going to the club?

Anywhoo, I’ve been eying way too many dresses the past few days. The weather here in Memphis is borderline bipolar. One day, I’m grabbing a light jacket to run some errands and the next day, I’m leaving work early to get home before a nasty mix of snow and ice hits the streets. True story from last week, by the way.

Still, the style I’m still fawning for are maxi dresses. Last year, I didn’t get a chance to buy and rock as many maxi dresses as I would like, but that’s going to change this year starting with the above arsenal of maxi dress options I spotted over at SurfStitch.com. Aren’t they amazing? Actually, there were A LOT more dresses I saw and instantly wanted, but I became instantly obsessed with these three.

  • Just Add Sugar Bayside Maxi Dress in Melon and Navy Stripes
  • Jorge Into The Void Maxi Dress in Vermillion
  • Betty Basic Monoco Dress in Electric Blue White Stripes

Am I the only one literally itching for the warm and sunny spring weather to hit, because I’m already over winter with its cloudy skies and flu making weather. I know I’m not alone in saying this, too!

Lust-Have List: JANUARY 2013

LUSTHAVEjan2013

Woohoo….we made it to 2013! I’m oh-so optimistic about this year, because you might have noticed from posts (and lack of posts) last year, that 2012 wasn’t one of the best years I’ve had. However, the silver lining in my tornado year was that I was able to learn a crap load of valuable lessons. A serious crap load!

Anyway, new year, new month, and new lust-have list. I will say that I’m not really itching to conquer much this month, but there are some things that I’m eyeballing and here they are!

  • A. Eddie Borgo Ionized Lotus Cone Bracelet, $375, Net-A-Porter – Love this bracelet. Initially, it looks like it would be a big, bright piece of arm candy. However, it’s actually pretty dainty on the wrist and adds a subtle punch of color to a bare wrist and outfit or mingle effortless among a wrist full of bracelets and other pieces.
  • B. Vogue Cropped T-Shirt, $75, Fancy – Perfect tee to wear while reading Facebook. lol
  • C. Flex Fleece Dog Zip Hoodie, $16, American Apparel – My brother and sister-in-law got me a Long Hair Chihuahua, whom I’ve named Pepe’, for Christmas. I love his stinky self, and I do mean stinky, so much. One of the reason I love him is because he doesn’t mind wearing clothes. He even came with a couple of sweaters and a doggie wife-beater tank. I can’t wait to break that out in the spring. Anyway, as soon as I saw this online, it dawned on me that he might want a hoodie. I never thought I would become one of those people that dressed their dogs, but hey, Pepe’ came with a sense of fashion…okay? I’m just helping him out or at least that’s what I like to tell myself.
  • D. Knitted Cropped Sweater, $60, TopShop – That blue is just so mesmerizing! Not too mention, it looks incredible warm and comfy!
  • E. Contrast Platform Wedges , $29.80, Forever 21 – Yep, all the spring stuff is starting to trickle out and it’s helping decide what styles and trends I might want to test out. While I’m still making that list, I’m all about these platform wedges from Forever 21. They have a little retro vibe to them that I’m fancying right now,
  • F. Jeffrey Campbell The Bladz Boot, $550, KarmaLoop – I was torn about adding these boots to the Lust-Have List, because they deserve a post all to themselves. However, fudge it! These might be the most expensive pair of JC shoes I’ve seen and they look to be worth the money and the serious lusting and drooling that I’ve been doing for them. They look EPIC, but…I need to see them in person just so that I know that these feelings I’m having for them are worth it.

Ralph Lauren Bears Return

polobear_main

Ralph Lauren has decided to lead his very cute, yet stylish teddy bears out of hibernation. Well, not completely.

Ralph Lauren has introduced the Bring It Back program which aims at temporarily bringing back iconic pieces from the line. The first contender – the Polo Bear Sweater. Oh, how do I remember these cute, stylish and too pricey for my mom to buy me in high school sweaters. Now, I might have my chance to get one, but there is a catch. They will only bring back one of the bear sweaters back into production. Which one, you ask? Oh, that’s up to us.

Ralph Lauren is taking votes via social media accounts and the one with the most votes will hopefully be hanging in  my closet in the very near future. Visit www.rlvintage.com to place your votes. Currently, “preppy bear”, as I like to call him, is in the lead. I think he’s my pick, too. Check out all 4 contenders below.
