Kitsch Hair Ties

I’m currently in the process of growing my hair, which can be quite annoying. The reason is because I can only tolerate my hair hanging down for so long, before I reach for something to put it up in an usually up and messy bun (I love messy buns!)

However, I’m over having to keep those boring and black elastic ties on my wrist. Enter Kitsch. Kitsch makes hair ties, but not just any hair, but they can also double as cute bracelets thanks to the plethora of prints and fabrics they offer. I’m almost certain that any outfit you and your closet can concoct, Kitsch has a tie that will match it muy perfecto!

Essential Skin Care Tips After Waxing

Waxing is a semi-permanent method of hair removal. The results of waxing can last up to eight weeks, which is why many people prefer it over other hair removal methods. However, in order for you to get the best results from waxing, you will have to take good care of your skin. Below are some essential after waxing skin care tips:

Apply lotion after getting your wax

Lotion can help soothe the skin and alleviate any pain or burning. There are a number of lotions available on the market today, but the best ones contain Aloe or Lavender. You may also want to consider asking a salon technician about lotions that he/she recommends.

Avoid direct heat or sunlight

You will want to make sure that you avoid exposing your skin to the sun at least 48 hours after getting a wax. Newly waxed areas are more prone to sunburn. You are also more likely to develop hyper-pigmentation if you expose your skin to the sun. You should avoid using sunscreen because it has chemicals that can irritate your skin.

You also want to make sure that you avoid getting into a hot tub for at least 48 hours after getting a wax. Not only does the heat damage the treated area, but the bacteria from the hot tub can cause an infection. Hot baths or showers should also be avoided. You should take a bath in cool water because it will prevent irritation.

Do not wear tight clothing

You should not wear tight clothing after getting a wax. The tight clothing can irritate your skin and cause ingrown hairs. Tight clothing also traps sweat onto the waxed area.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells. You will need to exfoliate after your wax, but you should wait at least 48 hours. Your skin will be very sensitive and exfoliating can cause further irritation. When you do exfoliate, make sure that you avoid using products that contain harsh chemicals.

Avoid touching the waxed area

Again, the newly waxed area will be very sensitive. That is why you want to make sure that you do not rub it. Additionally, when you constantly touch the waxed area, you put dirt, oil and other types of debris in your skin.

Apply a cold compress

If you have pain or burning around the waxed area, you should apply a cold compress. A cold compress will immediately relieve the discomfort.

Sally To The Rescue

My nails. What a story. About 2 months ago, I started an affair with getting my nails done and when I say “done”, I mean going to the nail salon and having tips glued on and acrylic layered over that. It sounds worse when you type it out, but hey, my nails looked pretty. Let me take it back as to why I decided to start getting acrylics again.

I use to get acrylics once every 1-2 months or longer. You know…to give my nails time to rebuild, you can say. Well, I had noticed my nails were stronger than ever and decided that I could get those gaudy, but semi-amazing acrylics back-to-back. Yeah, not one of my better thought plans, but I did and I paid greatly for it in the form of thin and peeling nails.

Here’s the thing about peeling nails; nail polish doesn’t like them. So, they jump ship in the form of chipping and peeling off, themselves.

I was super annoyed and took my grievances to one of the only places that I know where I can get instant results…Twitter! Almost instantly, Felishe, who is a contributor for Concrete Loop, tweeted me back with her recommendation of Sally Hansen Vitamin E oil and Nail Hardener. I decided, why not, because Sally Hansen makes amazing nail treatments and I was already a fan of the nail hardener. So, on my way home on that cloudy day, I stopped my by Walgreens and grabbed these 2 little bottles. One of the best nail buys EVER!

Within a week I noticed my nails were stronger and my nail polish was no longer chipping instantly. So, if you are having some issues with weak and peeling nails, I have the products for you!

A Smooth and Scented Summer

The products in my beauty/skincare arsenal changes every summer, almost. It seems like I’ll find a product that feels like we are going to be summer buddies for YEARS, but only to have a big disagreement (READ:breakout or allergic reaction) or they move away (READ: discontinued).

So, with that being said, here are some products that I’ve been loving in these super hot months. Some are past friends and some are new acquaintances. Anyway…

  • Lady Anti-Monkey Butt Powder, $5.95 – I was recently sent this to review, but it stayed on my makeup desk for about a week before I decided to go ahead and give it ago before I headed out to have a nice walk in the bad heat. Curvy girls know chaffed skin, especially on the thighs in the summer months . Well, this powder is heaven sent with satiny smooth powder that helps prevent chaffed thighs formed from friction on the skin, be it from exercising or just having to be in the heat. This powder feels so smooth and cool, that I practically use it everyday and keep in my gym bag.
  • Dove Go Fresh Deodorant in Cucumber and Green Tea, $3.83 – I LOVE THIS SCENT! First of all, I love Dove products. The soap, body washes, and even some of their hair products. Their deodorants are quite lovely. Not only do they smell amazing, but they also tend to last all day. However, this Cucumber and Green Tea scent is everything to me. The smell is cool, calm, and just screams spring summer to me. Although, I was introduced to this scent via the lotion, I’ve been buying this deodorant every spring summer for the past couple of years. I have a feeling this is going to be a summer staple for me for YEARS.
  • Jergens Natural Glow Healthy Complexion Lotion, $8.49 – A past summer love that I swooned about on Stained Couture before that I’ve recently taken up an interest in again. My legs are super pale thanks to my love of not showing my legs or distaste in showing my legs. Same difference. Ehh. Anyway, I threw this in my big red cart at Target a couple of weeks ago and my mind was instantly reminded as to why I used to love this lotion. Gradually tan and moisturized legs. Love.
  • Aveeno Active Naturals Body Wash Hydrating Fig & Shea Butter, $5.59 – Who knew fig could smell so amazing paired with shea butter? Well, it does, especially in this Aveeno body wash. My sister gave me this body was last week and as soon as I used it, I planned to hunt down the lotion version. Unfortunately, I can’t find a lotion version, but I don’t really need it after using this body wash. It’s super hydrating and leaves my skin soft and smooth.

Solange Transitions with Carol’s Daughter

Aside for me being known as an artist, fashionista, and little sis to King Bee, she is also known for her head of big hair. People still might remember when she did the big chop and cut off all her hair. I loved it, but could never do it. Instead, I opted to transition in little steps by growing a nice length of new growth before I did the “Big Chop”. That whole time was probably one of the most difficult times for me and my hair.

Transitioning your hair from relaxed to natural was a BIG thing to do 7 years ago when I did it, because there wasn’t that much info and products out there to makes that big moment easier. Well, that’s all about to change for thise of you who have decided to go natural, thanks to Carol’s Daughter.

Carol’s Daughter recently introduced their Relaxed to Natural Hair Solution Kit.

“This easy 3-step kit offers a solution to the 3 problems transitioners face: product build-up, scarred scalp & breakage at the points of demarcation. Now big choppers, long grow-outs and protective stylers can transition from relaxed to natural hair with less shedding, a healthier scalp and softer hair.” according the brand’s website.

Oh, how I wish this was available when I was transitioning, because I dealt with ALL of those issues and had the hardest time dealing with them. Luckily, I was able to tackle them, but not as easy if this kit was around back then.

Check out Carol’s Daughter’s campaign for the Relaxed to Natural Hair Solution kit featuring…oh…Solange. You like how I tied that bow? lol. Anyway, check out the video below.
