Weekend Beauty Buys: 2 regrets and a decent one

WEEB_09_15_14

I had another weekend in the house thanks to a weekend full of events throughout the city; particularly, around my neighborhood.  Unfortunately, despite the very pleasant weather, I was not in the mood to deal with any the crowds and traffic that comes with such events. However, things eventually died down, which gave me enough time to go wander around some stores. Therefore, here is the latest addition of WEEKEND BEAUTY BUYS!

The first item I picked up was one that I’ve been eying and itching to buy and try and that’s Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel. Every time I would go to Target, I would put it my cart before ultimately putting it back before checkout. I decided that I needed go ahead and do a buy and try. Since buying it, I’ve already used it. I think I’m going to write a review about this. So, look out for that.

The next thing I picked up Maybelline’s Pumped Up Colossal Mascara. All the mascara I had was dried up and needed to land in the nearest garbage can. So, I decided to pick up this up while investigating the makeup aisle at Walgreens. Sidenote: I wish I had naturally thick and long lashes and I needed to do was swipe a couple of clear mascara. Eh..what can you do.

Finally, ELF Eyebrow Kit caught my attention and I decided to buy it. As of this moment, I’m not sold on it, but I think I need to play around with it more. Fingers crossed, because I’ve heard fairly good things about this kit.

Weekend Beauty Buys: Moisturize. Polish.

WEBB_82514

The heat has not died down here in my neck of the woods. This weekend, it was in the upper 90s with a heat index well into the 100s. I’m over this heat and I’ve been trying stay to cooped up in my house. However, there were a few times this weekend that called for me go outside my cool and comfort zone and endure this heat.

One thing I picked up to try was Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer, which is formulated for acne-prone. With me, it’s touch and go with me when it comes to moisturizers with sunscreen. It can feel heavy on my skin, but this one is borderline perfect. It’s feels light and controls my oily skin, and hasn’t broken me out. Plus, its been helping with the longevity of my makeup through the day. Score.

I’m pretty much over the bright and fun colors of summer makeup and I’m breaking out the soft, neutral nudes and classic, deep reds. The first place I test these out is with my nail polish selections. So, I couldn’t help to pick up some more fall-friendly polishes, including this sophisticated red polish by Sally Hansen and Private Viewing by Wet n Wild. Also, I recently broke a couple of nails, and Private Viewing is great for the growing back my nails process.

SHANSEN_hardaswraps

I live for a fresh gel wrap manicure with it’s shiny and hard results on my nails. However, it can become too timely and my pockets aren’t that happy afterwards. So, I’ve become a huge fan of Sally Hansen’s Hard As Wraps.

Its an amazing basecoat for your nails and helps your polish stay on longer. Apply 1-2 layers to perfectly dry nails and voila…greatness.

You can find this at most drug stores and department stores, including Target.

Sally To The Rescue

My nails. What a story. About 2 months ago, I started an affair with getting my nails done and when I say “done”, I mean going to the nail salon and having tips glued on and acrylic layered over that. It sounds worse when you type it out, but hey, my nails looked pretty. Let me take it back as to why I decided to start getting acrylics again.

I use to get acrylics once every 1-2 months or longer. You know…to give my nails time to rebuild, you can say. Well, I had noticed my nails were stronger than ever and decided that I could get those gaudy, but semi-amazing acrylics back-to-back. Yeah, not one of my better thought plans, but I did and I paid greatly for it in the form of thin and peeling nails.

Here’s the thing about peeling nails; nail polish doesn’t like them. So, they jump ship in the form of chipping and peeling off, themselves.

I was super annoyed and took my grievances to one of the only places that I know where I can get instant results…Twitter! Almost instantly, Felishe, who is a contributor for Concrete Loop, tweeted me back with her recommendation of Sally Hansen Vitamin E oil and Nail Hardener. I decided, why not, because Sally Hansen makes amazing nail treatments and I was already a fan of the nail hardener. So, on my way home on that cloudy day, I stopped my by Walgreens and grabbed these 2 little bottles. One of the best nail buys EVER!

Within a week I noticed my nails were stronger and my nail polish was no longer chipping instantly. So, if you are having some issues with weak and peeling nails, I have the products for you!
