S’MORES…than meets the eye

smores-and-milk

You’re very welcomed for that dorky play on words for the title, but it is very fitting for this story I’m about to tell.

Last week, I found out some very disturbing news. My sister has never had a S’more. Seriously. In her 20+ years on this earth, the closest thing she has come to a s’more pop tarts, which is completely unacceptable. So, I mad it my mini mission to find some recipes to try that play on the classic flavor and fun of s’mores without to much work. S’more should be made with ease and consumed to please.

So, here are new s’more recipes to add to your life.

smores_dip

I’m going to seriously regret coming across this S’more Dip recipe from Bakeaholic Mama , because it’s so easy to make and will lead me to whip this up at any moment. S’mores dip at 11pm? Possibly.

smores_pizza

A S’mores pizza Heather’s French Press  is something that needs to stay a thing, because it’s genius. Graham cracker crust covered with melted milk chocolate, and sprinkled with marshmallows. Perfection. Added bonus for this recipe, just like with any other pizza, you can add other toppings. I’m wonder how I can incorporate a hint of mint. Hmm.

Smores-Pie

Want to up the ante with a S’more pie? Then check out this recipe from Tasty Kitchen. It looks so gooey and decadent.

Ideas for The 4th of July Desserts

patriotic_dessert_ideas

I love the Fourth of July, especially when it falls on a weekend (3-Day weekend!!) Despite the usual intense heat, the day of noshing on delicious smoked meats followed by a night of watching fireworks with family and friends is just a perfect summer day to me and I have so many memories of said perfect days from my childhood.

Now despite all the great entree’s of BBQ, baked beans, and  cole slaw, desserts tend to be very lack luster. My memories of desserts on the 4th are very bleak. All I remember is assorted pints of ice cream, which I never mind because ice cream is my BFF. Still, there are so many dessert options with a patriotic twist that will stand out any cookout.

Keep reading for some ideas for 4th of July desserts.

Cheesecake-Stuffed-Strawberries

Why not start off with something super easy and delicious; cheesecake stuffed strawberries! I recently ran across this quick recipe over on Dessert Now, Dinner Later and was so inspired (and hungry) that I went to the store that nigh to pick up the handful of ingredients needed. My sister and I pretty much devoured them during a binge of Lifetime movies. However, plan to make some more this weekend and hopefully they will last a little bit longer.

patriotic_pretzles

Sweet and salty is always a winner in my books and these pretzel sticks dipped in white chocolate look scumptious and for guest to grab, go, and socializ. The red, white, and blue add a patriotic flair, but you can substitute the sprinkle for drizzles of milk chocolate or crushed nuts for a various events and flavors.

WEEKEND AT HOME: Creating The Perfect Cheese Platter for Summer

CHEESE_PLATE_summer_main

In the summertime, I tend to not eat has much or have full and hearty meals, with the exception of a handful of BBQs. FYI, if you attend a BBQ, EAT!

Still, in the warmer months, I tend to eat lighter meals, mostly salads and lean meats and snack on fruit and nuts, which explains why I tend to drop a few pounds in the summer. Win!

However, one thing I really love to nosh on during these hot months are cheese platters. A simple cheese platter for summer usually consists of a few selections of cheese (obviously), crackers, fruit, and complimenting smears and are all so delicious like this one from Sprouted Kitchen. Also, they are best appreciated with a lovely selection of chilled wines.

I usually have one (wine and cheese platter) chilling in the fridge for the moments when I just want a quick bite to eat, to pull out for last minute guests, or an impromptu Netflix binge. Either way, I recommend you incorporate one into your life and summer.

Speaking of BBQs, these make a great, unexpected, and somewhat bougie additions to even the most casual of barbeques and summer shindigs. Check out these suggestions for cheese platters this summer.

Beautiful-cheese-Board-ideas-from-Fashionable-Hostess

Fashionable Hostess (whose blog I’m currently obsessed with and is totally worth stalking…daily) created this drool worthy cheese board that is not beautifully loaded with perfectly selected cheeses, but also delicately curated meats, nuts, and herbs.

Want to whip and break out a pretty crafted cheese tray to share with your girlfriends for a Girl’s Night In? This cheese tray from Dress Your Guest is the ideal tray, because aside from the obvious cheese, meat, and crackers, it also includes fresh sliced veggies, oils for extra flavors, and also chocolate. Chocolate is just awesome to pretty much anything. So, pile it up.

Need ideas of how to serve cheese platters if you aren’t into the “everybody go for what you know”, then you might love A Fabulous Fete’s cheese platter presentations with miniature chopping boards. So cute!

I’m pretty sure that this weekend I plan to plop on my sofa with my sister as we devour a nicely crafted cheese platter and wash it down some lemon iced tea and of course wine. Yes, there will be wine. I drink wine.

Have a great weekend!

Pie Recipes for Pi Day

pie_recipes_for_pi_day_2015

Today is March 14, which might not mean anything to most people. However, the inner geek in some of us know that March 14th is also National Pi Day, because in the intricate world of mathematics, Pi (π) is know to equal 3.14…March 14….get it?! Sheesh, I hope you do.

Anyway, every year, to commemorate the pointless piece of awesomeness, some people (me included) partake in making and/or eating some form of pie….with an e. Although the only thing they share is the fact that they sound exactly alike, on March 14 they are like Peanut Butter and Jelly, respectable on their own, but fun when they are together.

So, for this lovely day, I have decided to share some of my favorite pie recipes.

When it comes to desserts, I’m usually a cold girl (i.e. Ice Cream, pudding, custards…heavy dairy, apparently). However, when it comes to warm desserts I would pick pie over cake almost every time with the exception of birthdays, because…well, you know…birthday cake is delicious on birthdays.

Back to pies. They are so warm and comforting and everything else that Stifler said to Jim in American Pie,which was not about pie. Sidenote: It was hard for me to eat pie after watching that movie.

Okay. Pie is awesome and there are so many ways and recipes for pie and here are some of my favorite for today, National Pi(e) day. So, here are some delicious pie recipes for pi day.

classic_easy_apple_pie

Can you start a list of pies without apple pie? Well, you can, but not me. This is the easiest, delicious recipe for a classic apple pie.

pecan_pie_recipe_2015

On to another classic pie; pecan pie. Most of the people I know aren’t a fan of pecan pie, but not me. If you are like me, here is the classic pecan pie recipe I break out every Thanksgiving.

frozen_key_lime_pie_2015

Like I said, I love cold and creamy desserts. Plus, I love citrus flavors. So, a nice key lime pie always hits the spot, especially on a warm day.

chicken_pot_pie_2015

Pies aren’t just for dessert. Chicken pot pies are one of the ultimate comfort foods. I love this one with the delicious flaky crust.

No Bake Vanilla Cheesecake.ashx

My favorite dessert, hands down is cheesecake. I could (might have.) eat a whole in a day. Although it’s not called a pie, let’s be real, it’s a pie. This cheesecake looks so mouth-watering. Yum! Plus, this a no-bake vanilla cheesecake recipe. Winning!
