Stained Couture’s weekly series, Link-End Round-Up, features interesting reads I read around the internet this week.

The first Link-End Round-Up of June! Let’s get started.

Maybe I say or feel like this at the end of each week, but this week was all over the place. First off, Memphis got hit a major thunderstorm that left 100,000s of people without power. Luckily, me nor my immediately family experienced outages of property damage from all of the fallen trees. Unfortunately, there are still thousands without power almost a week later and I continue to pray that their power gets restored soon.

At the end of last week, before the storm, there was a mini shake-up at work. I’m very fortunate to say that my office’s work environment is very lax and we usually can come and go as we please. Well, used to be able, because the boss has cracked down on people leaving earlier. My work hours were 9-6. However, on most days, I need to leave work around 5. So, I changed my schedule to 8-5, which I don’t mind since I am an early bird. I will admit that the whole situation didn’t sit right with me all weekend, but I got over it. I’m still trying to adjust my body to be ready to work at 8 and I’m doing good for the most part.

Another thing that I started to do this week is to make my own coffee at home instead of buying a cup on the way. This not only helps me save money, but also to not waste all the coffee I have at home. I didn’t realize I had so much coffee at home. However, I’ve been making my own coffee all week and I’m proud of myself, but I noticed a change in my sleep. I’ve been having some restless nights, but didn’t know until yesterday. I’ve been adding sugar to my coffee, which is something I don’t do when pick up coffee at the drive-thru. If that wasn’t enough, I’ve also been using half and half instead of sugar-free almond milk. Who did I think I was? Anyway, I’m back to coffee, no sugar and almond milk only. Hopefully, this will help with my sleep.

Speaking of coffee, this weekend, I plan to set up shop in a local coffee shop and work on something related to Stained Couture that I’ve been putting off for over a year at this point. I didn’t realize it had been that long. If everything goes according to plan, I will have a long overdue announcement on Monday. I want to give a hint so bad, but I also don’t want to set myself up. Typical me.

Here’s to an amazing and safe weekend!

LUST-HAVE LIST: June 2017

Stained Couture’s monthly series, Lust-Have List, features items I’m wanting this month.

June 2017 lust-have list

Yoooo!, we made it to have way mark of the year; June! I think June is the dopest month of the summer, because everything feels relaxed, fresh, and carefree. School is out for those still getting their education, those of us with 9-5 start cashing in our vacation days, and the weekends are popping with things to do since the annual heatwave doesn’t show up until July. Oh, and June is when we officially enter summer. Like I said, June is dope!

In the summer, I feel the most creative and energized for doing and creating new things in my life. This can include trying a different hairstyle (I’m thinking braids for the summer), a home decor project (Am I finally going to paint my walls this summer?), or take a spontaneous solo road trip (Hot Springs, AR for a weekend…maybe.). Whatever it is, I’m starting to feel some changes making way through my life this summer and I’m already anxious.

Aside from tackling some much need R&R and summer reading, I plan to explore being a little extra. Actually, I’ve already begun my finally breaking out of my all grey everything and minimalism phases. I might revert back to that, because it did make my life a little easier. However, it’s time to get uncomfortable, folks! Time to peel myself away from my computer more, wear something bright everyday, and enjoy life more. You should, too!

For now, please have a look at the things I’m wanting this month!

LINK-END ROUND-UP: May 26, 2017

Stained Couture’s weekly series, Link-End Round-Up, features interesting reads I read around the internet this past week.

Today is Friday and it’s the kick-off for a 3-day weekend. It’s Memorial Day weekend and I can’t wait to chill out while consuming as much BBQ and cocktails as possible and in moderation. However, you have to acknowledge the true meaning of Memorial Day, which is to remember those who gave their life to protect our country. Please remember that this weekend.

Not sure if all these graduations are going on or the fact that I just binged watched ’13 Reason’ twice, but I’m missing high school. Okay, maybe not that much, but I did enjoy high school. What did I enjoy most about high? Not having to pay bills summer breaks. Those were the good ol’ days. Now my summer breaks are filled with making sure I have enough gas in my car to blast my AC and pray that the barista makes my iced coffee not too sweet. Well, I guess my life could be a lot worst than it is.

I’m only working half a day today and will be off Monday. However, I should be back on Tuesday with a new post. Have an awesome weekend and see you next week!

eStylist: Backyard BBQ Look

It’s Memorial Day weekend, which means an extended weekend. This long weekend, I’ve been invited to a couple of Memorial Day barbecues. Now, when it comes to styling my ideal backyard BBQ look, I have a couple of requirements. I prefer clothing that’s not snug or too light in color. Now that I think about it, that’s my requirement for most of outfit choices. However, in this case, I prefer to not feel like an overstuffed sausage while eating grilled overcooked sausages. So, the looser, the better. Also, I’m kind of clumsy when eating, especially BBQ. So, whites are off limits, because ruining any white clothing is stressful.

Some people consider Memorial Day the beginning of summer. However, I look it as the end of spring. Maybe we should use this weekend to wear our last bit of springy colors. So, if you are still on the fence about what to wear to any upcoming backyard BBQ or summer party, keep reading to get all the details for this inspired look to help you say “goodbye” to spring and “Hey, girl!” to summer.

LINK-END ROUND-UP: May 19, 2017

Stained Couture’s weekly series, Link-End Round-Up, featuring interesting reads from around the internet.

This week, I enjoyed waking up and slowly getting my day started, which is my norm. I get up before 5:30am 99% of the time. One of the things I love about myself is that I naturally wake up early. I hate the sound of alarms ringing, because they startle me. Plus, they make me feel I’m being rushed. FYI, I hate being rushed. Anyway, this week I slowed down my mornings even more than usual.  This week, I cooked filling breakfast, made coffee instead of buying some on the way to work, and tidied up the house. Finding ways to be more mindful is one of my latest hobbies, but I’m still working on it.

This weekend, I need to find and buy a new coffee table. I had to get rid of mine, because it was no longer the big, wood coffee table I fell in love with 8 years ago. I remember me and my then BF finding it the outlet section of a big furniture store. There was a slight dent that caused the price to be dropped from $200 to $75. It was my diamond in the rough. Unfortunately, the paint had faded and there were a couple of spots from me spilling nail polish remover on it. It’s served me and my home for plenty of years, but to the curb it went. However, somebody got it less than 6 hours after putting it out. Hopefully, they will be able to make my diamond in the rough shine again.

Now, time to go find a new one, but I’m thinking glass this time. Since the weather is warm, I wonder will there be some good yard sales popping for me search for one. Maybe I can find another diamond in the rough. Wish me luck!

Anyway, here’s to a great weekend and plans for an awesome next week!
