Gifts To Give Yourself for Valentine’s Day

Many years ago, an older lady gave a piece of advice regarding Valentine’s Day. She told me to buy myself something every Valentine’s Day – rather I’m single or not. Now, it’s rarely anything super extravagant,  but I have spoiled myself a couple of times. Although I’m one of those people that could care less about Valentine’s Day, I still try to do something special for me. I think of it as self-care, plus it helps remove the feeling of expecting someone to give you an amazing gift. It’s okay to look for gifts to give yourself.

LINK-END ROUND-UP: February 7, 2020

Stained Couture’s weekly series, Link-End Round-Up, features interesting reads I read from around the internet this week.

LINK-END ROUND-UP: February 07, 2020

Happy Friday, folks! So, how did the first week of February 2020 treat you? Mine? A blur, but nothing too bad. Well, it did rain most of the week and had the nerve to be freezing cold for a few. Oh, and speaking of freezing – it snowed last night. I mean, it was just a dusty, but I could’ve done without it.

Other than stupid weather and me having to get my other headlight replaced (I got the other one replaced in NYE), this week was decent. After much deliberation and procrastination, I finally started on a passion project. It’s in the very early stages, but I’m enjoying the process. It’s something I work on after work, on the phone, and while laying in bed. Nothing provocative, but it helps me deal with my anxiety and interact with like-minded people. Confused? Well, I might talk about it soon, which will hopefully encourage you to find a passion project or hobby.

This weekend, I want to get some organizing done this weekend. I really need to go to Ikea to pick up some of their wooden hangers, because I’m running out of hangers. Last year, I decided that I wanted all the hangers in my closet to look the same – clean and wooden. I settled in on the ones from Ikea, because they were simple and affordable. I’ve been trying to phase out the plastic ones in my closet, because I’m too old to have a closet with hangers that you can buy 100 of for $5.

In the meantime, please read some of my favorite articles I read this past week. The one about “stashing” made ghosting seem decent, but it also made me seem cold. I’ve stashed someone before and I plan to spend some time this weekend figuring out how to not do it again. Have a great weekend!

EMPTIES: January 2020

Stained Couture’s monthly series, EMPTIES, featuring beauty products I’ve used up this month.

EMPTIES: January 2020 | STAINED COUTURE

I have to be honest – I almost didn’t use up any products in January. Wild! However, I noticed there were some products in my bathroom that only had a couple of uses left. So, there was no  better time than the present to use them up. So, keep reading to see which products I used up both 3-pointing them into the garbage can in my bathroom. “KOBE!” 🙁

EMPTIES: January 2020

  • Dani Naturals Coconut Hibiscus Lotion – The scent smells like a tropical vacation. Really! Not only does it smell lovely, but it’s really moisturizing. I was sent this last year, but I’m going to order it this summer – with the matching shower.
  • Sephora Glycolic Glow Peel Pads – A couple of months ago, I picked up a few items from Sephora’s skincare line – out of pure curiosity. I picked up were these glycolic pads, because I live for a new skin treatment pads. However, these were a major disappointment. The pads were very thin and started to shred with the slightest swipe. Not to mention, I didn’t notice any changes in my skin, compared to glycolic pads I’ve tried in the past.
  • ClearProof Blemish Control Toner – During the holidays, I experienced some intense breakout. No matter the cause, this toner helped it go away and prevented some, too. I appreciated that this toner didn’t make my skin feel dry, which can be hard for some acne toners to do. I would buy this again.
  • Origins Spot Treatment – Yes, another acne product. I told ya’ll – my skin was being an utter jerk during the holidays. Thankfully, whenever I needed to expedite a pimple away, this spot treatment got it outta here. This will forever be one of my favorite acne spot treatments.
  • Sephora Clear Skin Days Toner – This other Sephora skincare product I bought. Unlike the pads, my skin actually enjoyed this toner. After using it daily for a couple of weeks, I did see some improvements. Unfortunately, I think it’s been discontinued, because I don’t see on their site. I bought mine in-store, so you may be able to find it there.
  • Pantene Leave-In Detangler Milk – The Pantene Gold Series is one of the best drugstore lines for natural hair. My favorite product from the line is the Leave-In Detangler, because it detangles and moisturizes my hair. I use it whether I plan to rock my hair curly or run the straighten iron through it. I’ve bought this numerous times.

LUST-HAVE LIST: February 2020

Stained Couture’s monthly series, Lust-Have List, features items I’m wanting this month.

LUST-HAVE LIST: February 2020 | STAINED COUTURE

Can you believe it’s finally February? Sheesh – January always feels so long. However, we’ve finally entered February and I couldn’t be more happier. I appreciate February, because it’s usually filled with some simple holidays and it’s my mom’s birthday month.

I’m really excited for this month, because I have a passion project that I’m working. Of course, I’m just in the beginning stages, but I spent some time this weekend working on it. So, I’m really enjoying this feeling – even if it never some to fruition. The journey is the best part, because you learn the most about you and hone in on your goal. It’s fun and I’ll talk about it more in an upcoming post.

As for this month’s Lust-Have List – it’s a sprinkle of wants and wants that could be classified as needs. However, keep reading to see all the items I’m lusting for this month.

LUST-HAVE LIST: February 2020

  • Underground Ankle Boots – Boot season is rapidly ending soon. However, these lace-up booties look so sick! I would legit wear them all year a’ la Doc Martens. Get into those laces all the way to the toe. I die!
  • Watermelon Glow Lip Pop – I tried a few Glow Recipe products last year – some bad and some stars. So, I haven’t scraped them off my brands to buy list, yet. Their new multi-purpose lip product that exfoliates, moisturizes, and tints the lips is on my want list. Basically, everything I want in lip products.
  • Compact Air Fryer – I feel like I’m the last person I know who doesn’t have an air fryer, which is giving me FOMO AF. Oddly, both my brother and ex asked me did I want an air fryer for Christmas, which I declined. So, I’m not a fan of December 2019 me, because I want an air fryer so bad now. I love the retro looking vibes of this Cuisinart one – cute!
  • Embroidered Pephem Dress – One of my favorite dresses I bought last summer was a printed layered pephem dress from Target.  It gave me my favorite ‘C’ vibes – comfortable, cute, and compliments. Therefore, I’m really feeling this dark and moody one from ASOS. It would make a great piece to transition from Winter to Spring. I see the potential.
  • Metallic Faux Leather Top Handle Bag – Mini bags will always have a small piece of my heart. I still love my mini metallic gold purse. However, I’ve always wished the handle was roomy enough to wear on my forearm. I spotted these adorable mini metallic top handle bags. I really love the red and it would be a great grab-n-go purse.

Stained Couture’s weekly series, Link-End Round-Up, features interesting reads I read from around the internet this week.

LINK-END ROUND-UP: January 31, 2020 | STAINED COUTURE

Well, this week started off like crap with passing of Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter and 7 other people. Every since that news broke early Sunday afternoon – everything just felt numbing. So, it’s been a very pensive time for many, including me.

This week felt like a long walk down a foggy pathway – confusing. However, I have had some great thoughts and ideas flooding in my mind, which has created this surge of productivity. Trying to turn some lemons into some profitable lemonade. Truthfully, this has been one of the only things that have kept me on the up an up.

Another thing that happened this week was the end of my 21-day fast of no meat, dairy, and coffee. I SURVIVED! So, glad that’s it’s over, but I plan to keep the healthy train going. However, I did go get some air-fried chicken wings and cauliflower mac n cheese from Whole Foods as soon as the fast was over. It’s also worth noting that I ate no meat or dairy yesterday – the day after the fast. So, I’m a happy medium.

Aside from continuing to work on a new passion project, I have plans to meet with 2 of my GFs for brunch. I’m so long overdue for a girls date and I’m always down to catch a brunch vibe. You know!

Here’s to an awesome weekend and read a couple of the articles in this week’s Link-End Round-Up.
