For the past 10+ years, I’ve been the girl that usually goes with all white bed linens or soft solid colors. However, I’ve recently started to step put of my comforters comfort zone and explore different colors, prints, and textures. Actually, this is long overdue, because every adult woman should have a fabulous collections of beautiful bedding options. Well, that’s what I’ve been telling myself every time I wander upon some lovely high thread count Egyptian cotton or linen bedding that costs almost half of my paycheck.

When I first moved into my first place many years ago, I was more concerned on having my own place than I was about having stuff in it. From I recall, I think the only thing I had in my first apartment was my bed, which was super comfy. I think I also had an entertainment center that just gave my age away, because I don’t believe entertainment centers are still a thing. However, like most people, I slowly but surely added other pieces. Within the first 6 months, I got a small tan sofa/chaise hybrid, pub style dining room set, and other pieces. At the time, I thought it was smart to go with basic pieces in contemporary style, which I thought was my style. In hindsight, I was playing it safe for no reason and cringe at those choices.

Don’t get me wrong, I would get compliments on my space all the time, but probably due to it looking like a staged home. I guess all those Saturday morning watching HGTV paid off. Now that I’m older, I realize that I should have been investing staple pieces that I love and design around. So, keep reading to see what 3 items I should’ve invested in for my first place.

There are so many elements to take in consideration when we’re trying to style our home. There are the foundational pieces, such as sofas, tables, and beds. However, my favorite part is the decorative items, such as pillows, plants, and wall decor. For the past couple of months, I’ve been obsessing over finding wall decor that not only fit my style, but my budget. Ugh, I could either find artwork that fit my style, but not my budget and vice versa. However, I eventually found some inexpensive wall art that fit both.

Every spring and fall, I get the desire to do some small tweaks to my decor. You know, nothing major; replace a few pictures and add a few knick knacks. For the past few weeks, I’ve been suppressing my desire to buy random home decor pieces. However, there are a few random, fun home decor pieces that have been chilling in my online shopping carts. I’m at the point where I’m either going to start buying them piece by piece of delete the whole cart.
